Did you know that it is possible to keep your brain in excellent condition and protect it from diseases related to aging? Here are some steps that will stimulate your entire brain by helping you learn better, be alert, live longer, and become much brighter than any average human being.
Steps
Step 1. Read
Reading is food for your brain. Reading is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your brain. Start by reading one book a month. Then try two books a month, etc.
Step 2. Exercise
Movement releases different chemicals in the brain that are not otherwise obtainable, including endorphins and growth hormones. When you train a certain part of the body, muscle growth hormones are released in the body to help rebuild its muscles and make them bigger and stronger. The best thing is that this process promotes the strengthening of the other muscles as well.
Step 3. Play sudoku
Playing sudoku keeps your brain active and especially helps the left hemisphere, that is the logical part. Sudoku puzzle keeps you awake and witty and keeps you sharp even in old age. Try to solve one Sudoku puzzle (available in every newspaper) per week.
Step 4. Crosswords
Solving crosswords, such as Sudoku, keeps you awake and also helps you recall things faster and remember them better. Try doing this on a weekly basis. They too are available in multiple newspapers and magazines.
Step 5. Music
Music stimulates your brain in many ways. Learning to play a new instrument helps stimulate the entire right brain hemisphere. It is said that the piano, but not 100% tested, is the instrument that most stimulates the brain. For this reason, many parents make their children listen to classical music.
Step 6. Languages
There are many benefits of being multilingual. Not only does it allow you to communicate with more people and understand their culture better, it also has a noticeable effect on the brain. Mostly it stimulates the right brain hemisphere, but partly also the left. Learning a new language with different roots (such as Chinese versus Italian) brings even greater benefits to the left hemisphere. While learning a language with roots similar to your mother tongue (like Spanish for us Italians) helps to stimulate the right hemisphere more than the left one. Imagine what would happen by studying both.
