Plan B One Step is the morning after pill. This is a high dose of hormones designed to prevent pregnancy when other methods have failed. In most Western countries it is an over-the-counter medicine, which men or women can buy without a prescription (but not in Italy). You shouldn't consider the morning after pill as a contraceptive but rather as an emergency measure.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Get the Morning After Pill
Step 1. Take the pill within three days of unprotected sex
If you think your usual contraceptive method may have failed you can use the pill to avoid pregnancy. The sooner you take it, the more effective it will be, so try to take it within 24-48 hours of intercourse.
The pill is 95% effective if taken within 24 hours. Its effectiveness drops to 89% within three days
Step 2. Go to the pharmacy during opening hours
They are usually open from Monday to Friday, from nine to five in the afternoon, but some pharmacies may have different and extended hours.
Step 3. Ask for the morning-after pill
It is a non-prescription drug but in some pharmacies it is kept behind the counter to prevent theft.
Step 4. Pay the amount due for the product
There is currently no generic drug equivalent to the morning after pill.
Step 5. If you can't buy the pill, try contacting a counseling center
They may be able to help you.
Step 6. Make an appointment with your doctor or gynecologist if you are not yet 16 years old
You will need a prescription to take the pill.
Part 2 of 2: Take the Morning After Pill
Step 1. Open the package and take the pill as soon as possible
Swallow it with some water to improve the absorption of substances in your body.
Step 2. Make an appointment at a clinic or doctor if you vomit within two hours of taking the pill because you may not have absorbed the substances
A doctor will be able to help you and advise you if you should take another dose.
Step 3. You may feel a little nauseous
This is normal and you won't need to see a doctor unless you vomit within two hours of taking the pill.
Step 4. Seek medical attention if you have some rare side effects such as severe abdominal pain, chest pain, blurred vision, speech problems or jaundice
Step 5. Stick to a contraceptive plan after taking the pill
You should take birth control pills or use condoms to avoid having to resort to emergency methods like this in the future.
