An electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, is a sudden explosion of electromagnetic radiation. The sudden change in energy levels can, in the true sense of the word "fry" the electrical circuits of computers, machines and other electronic devices.
Steps
Step 1. Understand what an EMP is and the consequences it can have
Unprotected computers will stop working and, as our lives are now governed by their use, the water supply will be cut off, hospitals will stop operating and, moreover, planes in the air will crash because they are controlled by computers and electronic circuits..
Step 2. Motorized vehicles will stop running
The internal circuits of the cars will merge, therefore, you will have to go on foot, by bike, or even on horseback.
Method 1 of 2: Preparation
Step 1. Buy a bicycle and learn how to use it
In case of an EMP, transportation will be one of your main concerns and you won't want to be forced to walk all over the place.
Step 2. Purchase non-perishable food and bottled water
Preferably buy dehydrated food because it is lighter; however, canned food will do just fine too. Don't buy large bottles of water, for example 5-liter bottles, but buy half-liter bottles that are easier to organize; in addition, you can fill some bottles with water to purify. But make sure you can tell them apart from the others.
Step 3. Prepare a survival backpack (BOB, "Bug Out Bag")
This is a "72 Hour Survival Kit" which will be of great help if you are forced to escape as it will provide you with the essentials for a long stay in the wilderness. Make sure it's the right size so you can carry it easily.
Step 4. Create a survival group
Just make sure you group people with different abilities and remember that a computer hacker will be useless in this case.
Method 2 of 2: Survival
Step 1. Check the news
If there is a threat of nuclear war near your home, flee immediately.
Step 2. Don't use the main roads
In fact, they will be super crowded, and there may be traffic jams. Instead, use lesser-known secondary ones, used by farmers or livestock.
Step 3. Stay hidden
Move as little as possible. Close the curtains after dark and avoid making noise.
Step 4. Set up guards
If criminals approach your hiding place, it is best to know in advance.
Step 5. Prepare to eliminate possible threats
"Anyone" can be an enemy. Don't tell anyone about your hiding place.
Step 6. Keep your spirits up
Think about music, games, and activities that can cheer you up.
Advice
- If you have firearms, keep them handy as desperate people are likely to turn violent.
- Do whatever it takes to survive.
- Make sure you always have an escape route ready.
- If you have bicycles, make sure you also have spare parts (e.g. brakes, wheels, derailleurs, brake discs, and so on).
- Get a Survival Backpack. You can buy a ready-made one, or make it yourself.
- In times of need you will have to be true to your morals and die, or do whatever it takes to survive; so, be prepared to do what is necessary to protect yourself and your family.
- Do some research. If you can, get cars that are resistant to EMP attacks; these were built before a certain year (thought to be 1975).
- Remember that an EMP is not always caused by nuclear warheads; they can also be caused by phenomena in nature, such as an ejection of material from the solar corona, known as "Coronal Mass Ejection".
Warnings
- Avoid big cities as many areas will have been raided and / or burned; while the police will be out of order.
- Don't wait for the government to save you, the politicians will worry about other things.
- Don't try to ride a horse without proper training, you could get very injured or even die.
