Do you want to cook your own pizza instead of calling a pizza express at home? Here's how to do it
Ingrediants
- Pre-packaged or homemade bread dough
- 1 egg white (to glaze the edge of the pizza)
- Tomato sauce
- Cheese in pieces (mozzarella is perfect, but also parmesan, pecorino romano or a mix of your choice)
- Olive Oil (Optional)
- Yeast (if you want to make the bread dough yourself)
- White flour (preferably 00)
- Hot water
- Gaskets as desired which can be:
- Grilled peppers or vegetables
- Raw onions
- Spicy peppers
- Sausages or frankfurters
- Bacon
- Chicken strips
- Olives
- Mushrooms
- Minced meat
- Dried ham
- Pre-packaged cubed cheese is a slightly cheaper alternative to traditional mozzarella. Just sprinkle the cheese cubes on the pizza.
- Before baking the pizza always remember to garnish it with a drizzle of olive oil, to avoid the risk of burning it.
- Keep in mind that this is just the basic pizza recipe. Once you get the hang of it, you can also try other ingredients: there is no limit to your imagination and attempts.
- Try mascarpone instead of mozzarella.
- You could also 'grill' the pizza: with the grill function of your oven. It will make it a little more crunchy, but only for a couple of minutes, and after cooking. Make sure it doesn't burn too much.
- Some use the sauce of pasta instead of tomato sauce, even ragù!
- Pay attention to the quantity of ingredients: too much tomato and too much cheese risk 'melting' the pasta, especially if it is too thin. And your pizza would get a little too watery.
- Some people scald the bread dough before garnishing it and putting it in the oven for good: it is not difficult, and makes the contrast between the ingredients and the dough even more intense.
- If the pizza is burnt … you have exaggerated either with the cooking or perhaps with the temperature of the oven. The pizza always cooks evenly, the crust must not burn and the inside must melt perfectly. And if the pasta is thin, it will obviously cook faster.
- When the pizza is in the oven, always keep an eye on it.
- Be careful not to garnish the pizza with foods you may be allergic to.
- Be careful not to burn yourself.
Steps
Step 1. Once you have rolled out and left your bread dough to rise, roll it out in a pan on which you have poured a drizzle of raw olive oil, to prevent your pizza from burning
Step 2. Spread the tomato abundantly on the pasta
Step 3. Add the cheese, if it's diced mozzarella it's great
Step 4. Add the other ingredients with which you want to garnish your pizza
Step 5. With a brush spread a little egg white on the edge of the pizza:
the crust will be even more crunchy.
Step 6. Add some oil and put the pizza in the oven
Step 7. The oven should already be hot, at least 160 degrees
Step 8. The pizza should cook for 15-25 minutes, but it all depends on your oven
You will have to be the judge yourself when your pizza is ready. The cheese must be melted but absolutely not burned
Method 1 of 3: In the Oven (Quick)
And if you want to do everything yourself, even the pasta …
Step 1. Preheat the oven, 180 degrees
Step 2. Dissolve the yeast in a glass and a half of hot water or even in a bowl
Step 3. Add the flour and start kneading:
you will have to work the dough for at least a quarter of an hour until you get a very soft but uniform amalgam.
Step 4. Take another bowl and pour a little oil into it:
then slip in what you have kneaded. A pinch of salt must not be missing..
Step 5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and keep the container warm and closed for at least 45 ':
the dough will rise and must become almost double the volume of the original dough.
Step 6. Turn your dough upside down on a board on which you have already sprinkled some flour:
divide the dough in half and let it rest for a few minutes
Step 7. Create the shape of your pizza, it can also be square if you use an oven pan, or as tradition dictates, round, and make it as thick as you want:
it depends on your taste, if you want it very 'mushy' or thin and crunchy.
Step 8. Place the dough on a greased baking sheet and complete with the tomato sauce and cheese and a pinch of oregano for the classic Margherita Pizza, or garnish with whatever you like
Step 9. Place your pan in the oven
The cooking should be about 15-20 minutes, check from time to time that the pizza does not burn and that the cheese melts evenly without burning.
Method 2 of 3: On the Grid (Faster)
Step 1. Cover the pasta with the sauce
You may want to leave some free crust on the edge.
Step 2. Add your favorite ingredients, arranging them on the pizza
Step 3. Spread the bits of cheese
Step 4. Simply place it on the grill, being careful not to burn yourself
The pizza should sizzle and crackle due to the air bubbles in the crust
Step 5. Take it out after 3 minutes, it should be ready
Method 3 of 3: Traditional Wood Oven (Even Faster)
Step 1. Get your pizza base
It can be any type, but make sure it doesn't get too thick as it cooks.
Step 2. Add the tomato sauce and the rest of the ingredients
Step 3. Make sure the oven is very hot
It will make cooking faster.
