This milkshake is easy to make and delicious for anyone who loves the taste of chocolate. You can opt for the preparation of a classic chocolate milkshake with very few ingredients, or experiment with something new by adding any additional flavor to your liking.

Part 1 of 2: Chocolate Milkshake
Step 1. Place a tall glass in the freezer (optional)
Whether you want to use a tall glass or a metal cup, place them in the freezer for a few minutes so that your milkshake stays cold longer as you taste it. As the glass cools, you can proceed to make your milkshake.
Step 2. Let the ice cream soften
By using ice cream that has just been removed from the freezer, your milkshake's taste will be watered down or frozen. By letting the ice cream soften on the kitchen counter for about ten minutes, you will get a better result. Wait for it to start melting on the edges.
- On warmer days, move the ice cream from the freezer to the refrigerator about 30 minutes early.
- If you heat up too quickly, the consistency of the ice cream may deteriorate. Moving it to the refrigerator for a short amount of time is the best method.
- If you are using frozen yogurt, you can skip this step.
Step 3. Combine the ingredients
Pour two large scoops of softened ice cream or frozen yogurt into the blender. If you don't have a blender, you can use a metal bowl. Add 60 to 240ml of milk, depending on the final consistency you want to achieve for your milkshake. The more milk you add, the more liquid your milkshake will be.
- Whole milk gives the preparation a richer flavor, but low-fat or skim milk is the healthiest option.
- If you want to make an extremely rich and tasty milkshake, add 15-30ml of whipped cream.
- Crushed ice would water down your milkshake. To dilute the consistency, use more milk. If it is too liquid, let the milkshake rest in the freezer for a few minutes.
Step 4. Add chocolate if needed
If you have chosen to use vanilla ice cream or want to intensify the cocoa aroma, add one of the following ingredients:
- 30 ml of chocolate syrup, then blend for another 10-30 seconds. If you used vanilla ice cream, use 60ml of chocolate.
- Melt a few squares or a handful of chocolate chips in a bain-marie. Alternatively, you can use the microwave at 10-second intervals, mixing carefully between activations. If your ingredient is the only dose of chocolate in the milkshake, use 60ml.
- 30 g of unsweetened cocoa powder further intensifies the taste of the chocolate milkshake, but may not be enough if you only use that as an ingredient for chocolate.
Step 5. Blend the ingredients or use a whisk
This step is easier when done with a traditional or immersion blender set at low speed. If you don't have a blender, take the opportunity to whip your milkshake by hand, using the whisk, thus burning some extra calories.
Semi-frozen ice cream can be blended easily by activating the blender at small intervals or by using a fork instead of a whisk. If you are unable to mix the ice cream with the other ingredients, press it against the edges using a rubber or wooden kitchen spatula, then try again
Step 6. Serve in a cold glass
Before pouring it into the glass, taste your milkshake in order to possibly correct its consistency, adding more milk (to dilute) or other ice cream (to thicken) to your taste. Part 2 of 2: Additional Ingredients
Step 1. Make a Mexican version of a chocolate milkshake
If you love spicy and complex flavors, use chocolate and chilli ice cream and add a few squares of spicy chocolate to mix it with the ingredients of the milkshake. Alternatively, incorporate the following ingredients into the basic recipe:
- A pinch of cinnamon;
- A pinch of chilli powder;
- 1 drop of vanilla extract.
Step 2. Add ground coffee to intensify the taste
Even if you are not an espresso lover, you will notice that a pinch of ground coffee will increase the flavor of your milkshake, also giving it a pleasant toasted note. Those who love coffee, on the other hand, can also add 10-15 g of ground coffee.
This variant goes perfectly with the essence of almonds: add 2.5 ml
Step 3. Add some fruit
For example, a frozen banana, a few strawberries or a handful of raspberries. Cut the frozen fruit into small pieces, then add them to the milkshake and blend them for a few seconds for the flavors to blend perfectly.
Step 4. Are you crazy for sweets?
Add some solid ingredients to make a smoothie that's not just a refreshing drink. For best results, add them only after completing the preparation of the milkshake. You can leave them in evidence on the surface of the milkshake or blend them for a few seconds only, so as not to compromise their consistency. Here are some suggestions:
- Coarsely crumble a chocolate chip cookie or two or a small brownie.
- Add some toasted marshmallows or a small whole s'more.
- Buy or make small donuts yourself. It is advisable to avoid them coming into contact with the milkshake, so arrange them around a straw with a wide section.
Step 5. Add an alcoholic note
A small amount of bourbon, Bailey's, Kahlua or your favorite liquor will allow you to reach higher levels of satisfaction. Add one shot (45ml) or more of your chosen liqueur.
You may need to reduce the amount of milk you add in order not to dilute the milkshake too much

Advice
- You can use chocolate with any percentage of cocoa: 99% dark, milk or an intermediate percentage.
- Spoon-shaped, wide-tipped straws are perfect for picking up pieces of ice cream or other ingredients.
- For a healthier milkshake, use low-fat or skim milk and replace the ice cream with ice. In this case, blend the ingredients a little longer to get an even consistency; your drink will be more like a frozen cocktail rather than a real milkshake. For anyone who is careful about the calories they consume, it will be worth a try.
