This Nutella hot chocolate is a rich and creamy delight, perfect for warming up during the cold winter months. Nutella adds the taste of hazelnut to the already excellent one of hot chocolate, making it even more intense and appetizing. If you want, you can also freeze it in the freezer to serve as a refreshing dessert in spring or summer. If you have milk and Nutella in the pantry, you can start making your own hot chocolate right away.
Ingrediants
Hot Chocolate with Nutella Classic Version
- 3 tablespoons (45 ml) of Nutella
- 315 ml of milk
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Make Nutella Hot Chocolate Using the Stove
Step 1. Heat a small saucepan over medium heat
Place a saucepan on the stove, preferably made of stainless steel and not copper or aluminum as both materials could cause an unwanted chemical reaction in contact with the milk.
Step 2. Pour the Nutella and part of the milk into the pot
Add 3 tablespoons (45 ml) of Nutella and 80 ml of milk. You can use whichever variety of milk you like, but the ideal is to choose whole milk to give the chocolate a nice creamy texture. If you follow a vegan diet, have food allergies or simply based on your preferences, you can also use a plant-based milk, such as almond or soy milk.
Step 3. Stir to blend the ingredients
Dissolve the Nutella in the milk by stirring with a spoon or a whisk. Keep stirring until the two ingredients are perfectly blended (this will take about 5 minutes). The heat will help the Nutella melt and melt into the milk.
Step 4. Add the remaining milk, then raise the heat slightly
When the two ingredients are well blended, pour the remaining milk (235 ml) into the pot and increase the heat to a medium-high level.
- If you want you can make a version of the chocolate with less milk, at this stage add only 175 ml.
- Do not use excessive heat, otherwise a superficial film will form on the milk.
Step 5. Stir to get a homogeneous consistency
After adding the remaining milk, you need to resume mixing using the whisk or spoon. Keep stirring for about a minute or until the ingredients are well blended. If you want the chocolate to take on a soft and light consistency, stir vigorously to incorporate small air bubbles into the mixture.
Step 6. Pour the hot chocolate into the cup and serve immediately
When the ingredients are hot and well blended, you can pour the chocolate into the cup using a small ladle. Do this slowly to avoid the risk of overturning, then serve it immediately while it is still hot. If you want, you can make it even more inviting and delicious by decorating it with small colored marshmallows.
Method 2 of 3: Make Nutella Hot Chocolate Using the Microwave
Step 1. Pour the milk into a microwave-safe cup
As an alternative to the stove, you can prepare Nutella hot chocolate using the microwave oven, the important thing is to avoid heating the milk too much. First, pour 315ml of milk into a large ceramic mug.
Step 2. Heat it on high power for 2 minutes
Put the cup with the milk in the microwave, then turn it on to a high power setting. Do not heat it beyond 2 minutes, or it may start boiling.
Step 3. Add Nutella
After heating the milk for a couple of minutes, remove the cup from the oven and add the Nutella with the spoon. Start mixing the two ingredients gently to blend them.
Step 4. Stir until the Nutella has completely dissolved in the milk
As you spin, you should see that it begins to melt thanks to the heat. Keep stirring until it has completely melted and blends evenly with the milk.
Step 5. Reheat the chocolate if needed
If it's not hot enough, put the cup back in the microwave, then run it at 15-second intervals. Check the chocolate at the end of each interval to make sure it doesn't start boiling. Once hot, you can serve it and enjoy it.
Method 3 of 3: Add Some Decoration or Extra Ingredients
Step 1. Sprinkle it with marshmallows
In Anglo-Saxon countries, marshmallows are commonly added to any type of hot chocolate, including one enriched with Nutella. Sprinkle it with mini marshmallows as soon as it's ready - they will melt slightly on the outside but on the inside will keep their fantastic soft texture.
Step 2. Decorate with whipped cream and chocolate syrup
Another classic combination is given by hot chocolate garnished with whipped cream and syrup, usually chocolate or caramel. If you want, you can whip the cream yourself and flavor it with an ingredient of your choice, for example coffee powder or hazelnut.
If you are an avid Nutella fan, you can make hot chocolate even more irresistible by putting some in a pastry bag to spread over the whipped cream instead of the syrup
Step 3. Add texture to the chocolate
If you wish, you can garnish it with crunchy ingredients, for example sprinkling the whipped cream with chopped hazelnuts or chocolate chips or flakes. These decorations will give it texture and creak pleasantly in the mouth making the experience even more enjoyable.
Step 4. Bring more strength to the chocolate with bourbon
If you've come of age, you can enhance its taste with a touch of liqueur. Once ready, all you have to do is add the desired amount of bourbon and then mix with a spoon.
The taste of bourbon matches perfectly with that of chocolate. Another excellent option is rum
