The United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, a locality near Highland Falls, New York, is a 4-year federal academy. Steps
Step 1. Check if you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for admission
You must be between the ages of 17 and 23 and not married. You do not have to be legally obliged to pay child support or be pregnant. Additionally, you must be a citizen of the United States unless you qualify for the internationally sourced admission exception
Step 2. Prepare for admission to West Point in your second year of high school
- Take college preparation classes.
- Do some team sport, like football or soccer, or an individual sport, like mixed martial arts. By playing sports, you will be able to train to acquire the physical strength necessary to pass the "Candidate Fitness Assessment" (CFA, or the assessment for physical fitness) during the admission process.
- Join an association or club in your school or community where you live. By doing so, you will acquire the leadership skills needed for West Point.
Step 3. Increase your preparation starting in the second year of school
Step 4. Begin the application process to enter West Point in your third year of high school
- Fill out the "West Point Candidate Questionnaire" to be approved.
- Get congressional or military nominations.
- Keep getting good grades in school, take on more responsibility, and work on physical preparation.
Step 5. Take Advanced Placement courses
Step 6. Study and pass the ACT or SAT test
