For most of us, studying with flashcards is a great way to learn. Here's how to memorize a stack of them quickly and effectively.
Steps
Step 1. First of all, prepare the flashcards if you haven't already
Step 2. Then, arrange them all in a grid
You should make sure you have five for each column.
Step 3. Now that they are sorted in a grid, remove the ones you already know
You have to be very honest about it, don't guess and see if you're right. So you deceive yourself and learn nothing. Put aside the flashcards already stored.
If you have already memorized quite a few, you will need to rearrange the grid to fill in the empty spaces
Step 4. Take the first row of flashcards and place three in front of you
Step 5. Take the first card and read it aloud
It sounds silly, but doing so will quickly memorize it.
Step 6. Take the second card and do the same
Step 7. Now, point to the top card and repeat what it means
Step 8. Do the same with the second
Step 9. Now read the third
Step 10. Next, point each card individually and try to repeat their meaning
Step 11. Once memorized, shuffle them and without looking try to repeat what is written on each card to make sure you have learned the concept, and not its position on the grid
Step 12. Take the fourth card and add it to the mix
Step 13. Shuffle the cards and try repeating
Step 14. Finally, add the fifth card
Step 15. When you are sure you have memorized them well, take them all in hand
Browse all five of them. Repeat and check that you have said everything and correctly.
Step 16. Once done, set them aside and repeat these five steps with the next column
Step 17. When you have memorized them, add them to the first five and try to repeat all ten
Again, check that you have said everything.
Step 18. Continue this process until you have memorized all the columns
Step 19. Don't forget to add the cards to the stack of memorized ones and repeat them all each time you add a row
Step 20. Congratulations! You have memorized your flashcards quickly
Advice
- Be honest with yourself. If you don't remember what is written on a card, put it aside and try to memorize it again. What is the point of guessing now and making a mistake during the test or exam?
- Use the pen, the pencil fades if you use the cards often. This way the flashcards will stay clean, clear and won't erase.
- This is crucial. You need to know what kind of verification you will face. Some professors are nice and tell you if it's multiple choice or open questions. If it is the latter, then you must know perfectly all the concepts or facts present on your cards. If, on the other hand, it is a multiple choice test, it is a bit more deceptive, and you have to focus on correct dates and definitions. And if the teacher has no intention of telling you how he will set up the test, you will have to study everything well to prepare for any eventuality. But don't worry, it's not as difficult as it sounds.
- Save the trees, use A4 paper and cut them into quarters. Buy them blank, so that there are no lines or squares on one side of your cards.
- If your brain is a sponge, you can make columns of six or seven cards to memorize them even faster. But don't overdo it, otherwise you will keep forgetting the first ones you repeated.
