Stop fighting with the remote control buttons! If some of them no longer work or you need to squeeze them all the way down to make them work, you may find the solution here. The problem probably lies in the poor conductivity between the keys and the circuit board.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using a Repair Kit
Step 1. Purchase a specific repair kit (worth it), especially if the remote is very expensive or no longer produced (or spare parts are missing)
The cost is around € 15 and a solution is included with which to cover the keyboard.
Step 2. Remove the batteries
Step 3. Check the remote for the screws that hold it together
Don't forget to look in the battery compartment and under the stickers and covers.
Step 4. Open it using a small knife or small screwdriver to pry to the side
Step 5. When you open it, look for any switches or "loose" pieces to remind you where they will go when you need to put the remote back in place
You can take a photo to make this easier.
Step 6. Clean the circuit board and keyboard to remove any dirt or grease
After cleaning, check if it still works. With a toothbrush and pink alcohol scrub gently, also passing some cotton wool and letting everything dry.
Step 7. Dip a cotton swab in alcohol or acetone (usually included in the cleaning kit) and clean all black contacts that correspond to the channel numbers of the rubber keypad
Step 8. Apply conductive paint over the contacts
The best way to do this is to take a match, dip it in the paint and pass it over each contact and each rubber foot.
Step 9. Let it dry for a few hours (24 hours would be better)
Step 10. Put the components back together, remembering to put the side carriages and moving parts back in their original position
Step 11. Put the batteries back and enjoy your new working remote
Step 12. If it doesn't work, maybe it's best to buy another one
Method 2 of 2: Using Kitchen Aluminum
Step 1. Make a note of any buttons that don't work
Step 2. Open the remote control as explained in the previous method
Step 3. Check the panel for the problem
Look especially at the broken keys; if the panel is clean, the rubber button contact has probably lost connectivity.
Step 4. Take a roll of aluminum foil, and cut small pieces that will fit on the contact of the rubber button
Step 5. Using instant glue, attach the foil foil to the rubber button contacts
Step 6. Reassemble and check
Advice
- If the coating is too thick on the contacts or if the card is not cleaned properly, the coating can peel off and cause the remote to malfunction until further cleaning.
- Make sure you've cleaned the remote thoroughly before applying paint to the keys.
- Don't forget about the "dancing" components, putting them back in place after the repair is complete.
- Do you want to be sure that the infrared led works? Use a cell phone or camera and point the remote control at the lens. Look into the objective lens while pressing any key. If the led works it should make a kind of flash. Also check with other keys (if you don't see the glow the key is not working).
Warnings
- Don't cut yourself with the knife!
- Remember well how the screws and other parts are placed to put them back in place when the work is finished.
- If after opening the remote you see that the circuit board is broken, then this guide will not help you because it does not provide for this type of repair.
