This article explains how to log in to the Netgear router configuration and management web page. In this way you will have the possibility to modify the configuration of your LAN network. Before you can access the Netgear router, you will need to locate its IP address using your computer settings.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Tracing the IP Address of the Router in Windows
Step 1. Access the "Start" menu
Click on the button featuring the Windows logo located in the lower left corner of the desktop.
Step 2. Launch the Settings app by clicking on the icon
It features a gear and is located in the lower left corner of the "Start" menu.
Step 3. Click on the "Network and Internet" icon
It is one of the options listed on the main screen of the Settings app. The "Status" tab of the "Network and Internet" section of the Settings app will appear.
Step 4. Click the View Network Properties link
It is located at the bottom of the main window pane.
Step 5. Scroll down the page to the "Wi-Fi" section
It is located at the bottom of the newly appeared screen.
Step 6. Check the IP address listed under "Default Gateway"
It is visible at the bottom of the "Wi-Fi" section, exactly to the right of the "Default gateway:" field.
Part 2 of 3: Tracing the IP Address of the Router on Mac
Step 1. Access the "Apple" menu by clicking on the icon
It features the Apple logo and is located in the upper left corner of the screen. A list of options will be displayed.
Step 2. Click on System Preferences…
It is visible at the top of the drop-down menu that appeared. The "System Preferences" dialog box will appear.
Step 3. Click the Network icon or Net.
It is located on the right side of the "System Preferences" window.
Step 4. Click on the Advanced… button
It is located in the lower right corner of the window. A new pop-up window will appear.
Step 5. Click on the TCP / IP tab
It is listed at the top of the window that appeared.
Step 6. Make a note of the IP address visible under "Router"
It is visible in the "Router" text field located at the top of the window.
Part 3 of 3: Log in to the Router
Step 1. Check your network router's login credentials
They are usually found on an adhesive label on the underside or back of the network device. In most cases the username to use is "admin", while the password is "password". However, your specific router's login credentials may be different. Always refer to the information on the adhesive label that you find on the device.
Step 2. Launch your computer's internet browser
Double-click on the browser icon you normally use to browse the web.
Step 3. Visit the router configuration web page
Type the IP address of the router into the address bar of the browser and press the Enter key.
If you are unable to access the router configuration page, refer to the last step of the article to find the solution to the most common connection problems
Step 4. Type the word "admin" into the "User Name" text field
Click on the field indicated, for example "User Name" or "Username", then type in the keyword admin.
- If a different username appears on the sticker on your network device, you will need to use that one.
- Remember that router login credentials are case-sensitive.
Step 5. Enter the security password
If you haven't set a custom password to protect access to your network router, enter that standard password exactly as it appears. Type in the "Password" text field.
If you have set a custom password or if a different password is indicated on the label on the router, you will need to use that one
Step 6. Click the Log In button
It is located below the "Password" text field. This will give you access to the configuration and management page of your network router.
Alternatively, you can press the key Enter keyboard.
Step 7. Wait for the router configuration page to load completely
Normally this should take a few seconds, but in some cases you may need to wait up to a minute. When the configuration page has completely loaded, you can review the status of the router and your LAN and make any changes you want to their configuration according to your needs.
Step 8. Solve common connection problems
If you are having difficulty accessing the router configuration page, refer to these solutions:
- Make sure your computer is connected to the router's LAN.
