If your Windows computer fails to properly download content from the Microsoft Store, you have a few solutions, ranging from changing your computer's system date and time to clearing the store cache linked to your account.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Change the System Date and Time
Step 1. Access the Windows search bar
If you are using Windows 10, you will simply have to open the "Start" menu.
In the case of Windows 8, press the hotkey combination ⊞ Win + W
Step 2. Type the keywords "date and time" into the search bar
Step 3. Select the "Date and Time" option
It should appear at the top of the search results list.
If you are using Windows 8, choose the "Change the date and time" item displayed in the list of results
Step 4. Press the "Change date and time" button
It is located within the "Date and Time" section of the menu.
Remember that to change these settings you must use a computer administrator user account
Step 5. Change the system date and time
This information should reflect the current date and time, based on the geographic area in which you currently reside.
If you need to change the time zone currently configured on your computer, you can press the "Change time zone" button
Step 6. Press the "OK" button
At this point the system date and time should coincide with those entered.
Step 7. Log back into the Windows search bar
Step 8. Type the keyword "store" (without quotes) into the search field
Step 9. Click the "Store" icon that appeared in the results list
Step 10. Click the down arrow icon located on the left of the store search bar
Step 11. Check your downloads
If the cause of the problem was with the system date and time, you should now be able to download content from the Microsoft Store without any difficulty.
Part 2 of 4: Updating Installed Applications
Step 1. Go to the Microsoft Store
Step 2. Click the icon of the user profile currently in use
It is located on the left of the search bar.
Step 3. Choose the "Download to updates" option
Step 4. Press the "Check for Updates" button
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 5. Wait for the updates to be downloaded and applied
Depending on the number of apps to update, this step may take several minutes to complete.
Step 6. Return to the application download page of the store
If updates to installed applications were the cause of the problem, you should now be able to download the content you want without any difficulty.
Part 3 of 4: Log out of the Microsoft Store
Step 1. Make sure the Store app is running
Step 2. Click the user account icon on the left of the search bar
If you have associated a picture with your Windows profile, it should appear right where it is indicated. Otherwise you will see an icon in the shape of a stylized human silhouette.
Step 3. Select your account name
It is located at the top of the drop-down menu that appeared.
Step 4. Select your account from the pop-up window that appeared in the center of the screen
Step 5. Click the "Log Out" link located under the user profile name
This will log you out of the Microsoft Store app.
Step 6. Click the account icon again next to the store search bar
Step 7. Choose the "Login" option
Step 8. Select your account name
You should find it at the top of the "Sign in" window that appears.
Step 9. If prompted, enter your login password or PIN
This will take you back to the Microsoft Store.
Step 10. Check the Downloads tab
If logging back into your Microsoft account resolved the issue, all interrupted downloads should be restarted automatically.
Part 4 of 4: Empty the Store Cache
Step 1. Close the Windows "Store" application
Step 2. Press the hotkey combination ⊞ Win + R
This will bring up the "Run" window.
Step 3. Type the "wsreset" command into the "Open" field of the "Run" window
Alternatively, you can type the same command in the search bar of the "Start" menu to access the "Windows Store Reset" program.
Step 4. Press the "OK" button (or select its icon from the search results list)
Step 5. Wait for the "Command Prompt" window to appear to close automatically
The "Store" application cache should now be empty.
Step 6. Check the "Store" app listing for downloads
If the application cache was the cause of the problem, all pending downloads should now be restarted automatically.
