Some external peripherals and USB devices are only compatible with USB 2.0 ports. You can check if your computer has such a port by checking the system specifications on both Windows and Mac.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Check the USB Ports on Windows
Step 1. Click on the “Start” menu and select “Control Panel”
The control panel window will appear on the screen.
Step 2. Click on “System and Maintenance” and then select “Device Manager”
Step 3. Double click or open “Universal Serial Bus controllers”
Step 4. Check if a USB port in the list is labeled "Advanced"
If so, your Windows is equipped with a USB 2.0 port.
Method 2 of 2: Check the USB Ports on Mac OS X
Step 1. Open the Applications folder and then select “Utilities”
Step 2. Open “System Profiler”
The System Profiler window will appear on the screen.
Step 3. Click “USB” in the left pane under Hardware
Step 4. Check if there is a USB 2.0 port in the list of USB ports
Each USB port has a specific labeling, for example "USB 1.0", USB 2.0 ", or" USB 3.0 ".
