Cleaning car tires is an easy way to improve the appearance and performance of the vehicle. By cleaning the tires you will not only get a great effect, but you will also ensure your vehicle has better grip and better braking ability. This process will also save you money in the long run. If you let the dust accumulate on the tires and inside the wheel, you allow the corrosive elements to compromise the effectiveness of the brake pads. Make sure you clean your tires thoroughly often.
Steps
Step 1. Wash the wheels and tires separately from the rest of the car
Use a different bucket with soap and water specifically for the wheels and tires, so as not to damage the rest of the car with the grease and dirt coming from the wheels and tires.
Step 2. Use a tire cleaner
There are many cleaners available on the market made specifically to remove the elements that damage wheels and tires. Apply the tire cleaner to the tires and wheels following the instructions on the package. Some cleaners are cream and should be applied with a soft cloth, others are spray and should be applied to all wheel and tire stains.
Step 3. Scrub the tires
Use a soft-bristled brush to remove any dirt that accumulates on the wheels from everyday driving. Scrub one pair of wheels at a time and rinse the rubber you're working on before moving on to the next wheel. Make sure you reach the slots in the wheel where the brake pads are located. This area accumulates most of the dust produced by the brake pads and is the most vulnerable area with regard to corrosion caused by dirty wheels. Rinse and repeat the operation if necessary. You will never be able to be too careful in cleaning the wheels and tires of the car.
Step 4. Dry with a sponge cloth
You can also get a special microfiber cloth. Make sure you dry the entire tire and wheel thoroughly. If you don't dry your tires and wheels completely, the wax and solution you used for washing may dissolve and not work properly. By doing so, you will also unnecessarily expose your vehicle to rust.
Step 5. Polish the tires with wax
The procedure to follow is exactly the same as polishing the car with wax. Apply the wax with the special sponge applicator supplied before polishing the rubber; in this way you will protect the tires, which will not only look good, but will also resist dust and other elements that can damage them. Polishing with wax and washing your tires thoroughly will also protect them from UV rays, which cause the rubber material the tires are made of to break.
