Cleaning the headlights allows you to see the road more clearly when it is dark or in hazy, rain or snow conditions. While it is possible to purchase specific cleaners at automotive stores, the headlights can also be cleaned at home using toothpaste (most types are fine).
Steps
Step 1. Squeeze a strip of toothpaste onto a soft sponge
Anti-plaque toothpastes are particularly effective in removing oxidation and dirt from the surface of the headlights.
Step 2. Rub the sponge vigorously over the entire surface of the headlight in a circular motion
This will help you remove dirt and oxidation from the headlight.
Step 3. Remove toothpaste residue using a clean dry cloth
Once finished, the headlights will be clean, with no residue that could obstruct the view of the road.
Step 4. Repeat every 2-4 months, as needed
Advice
After cleaning the headlights with toothpaste, apply some polishing wax to the surface to reduce the frequency with which you will have to clean them. The wax helps protect the headlights, so you can clean them less often, allowing more than two or four months to pass between cleanings
Warnings
- Do not use toothpastes containing refreshing crystals, hard particles or other types of special ingredients, as they can scratch the surface of the headlights. Instead, use plain white toothpaste with anti-plaque properties for best results.
- Keep in mind that toothpaste has abrasive properties, so it can remove any polishes or protective solutions you have applied to the surface of the headlights. After cleaning them with toothpaste, reapply the polish and protective solution.
