You have finally managed to form your band, but what will you write on the posters and on the internet? Choosing a band name can be difficult, but it can make a difference because it's the first thing your audience will remember you for. Here are some tips on how to decide the name of your band.
Steps
Step 1. Be careful not to infringe on the copyrights of other bands. Do not copy the name from another group. Many bands can even file copyright and trademark infringement complaints. So if you are thinking of names like Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Judas Priest, Paramore, Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, Sick Puppies or AC / DC, forget it. You need more ideas.
Step 2. If you are a tribute band, you need a nice name that recalls that of the band you pay homage to
Here are some interesting ones: Alice in Cooperland, AB / CD, Dread Zeppelin and Bjorn Again, a satire against ABBA.
Step 3. Seek inspiration around you
Look at the posters when you go around. Think of interesting song titles. Find words you like and play them.
Step 4. Go to Wikipedia and click on "A random entry"
If the term that comes up is not the name of a person, show or band, you could choose it as the name for your group.
Step 5. Be careful with misspellings or the use of misspelled words
Sometimes they work, other times they are stupid.
Step 6. Also consider using or modifying a foreign word
As did Pantera, a legendary American metal band.
Step 7. Talk to other people about it
Ask friends who are in other bands how they decided on the name of their group. When you have decided on a name, ask friends and family for advice to find out what they think: okay? Is it captivating? Is it suitable for the genre of music you play? If you are a metal band, a punk name is no good and will hardly stick to your mind. A suitable name for a metal band could be Acid Meltdown. A punk name could be Government Conspiracy. A name for an eighties rock band might be Poison (which has already been used).
Step 8. Search for special programs on the Internet
There are some websites that create possible names for bands. Type "create band names" in a search engine to find these sites. But beware: the names that are proposed can be terrible.
Step 9. Be elegant
Many think it is cool to choose a vulgar name. This could cause you to lose advertising and contracts. If you start off with a bad name, you'll have to live with it.
Step 10. Don't forget your sense of humor
If your band name has a humorous undertone, people will remember it more easily and you will like it more.
