Want to know how to pretend you have a pregnant belly? Do you need to create a fake belly without spending too much and that can be done quickly? Then read this tutorial, which will allow you to look like you are in the seventh-eighth month of pregnancy.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Using a Helmet
Step 1. Choose a helmet that will act as a baby bump
Don't use the ones that have face shields, as they will give your belly a weird, bumpy look - a cycling helmet is probably more suitable for this purpose. You can find it in many different designs and shapes, and all of them should work well as a fake belly. If you wish, however, you can also try other different shapes, if you have various possibilities of choice, in order to find the most convincing baby bump for your needs.
Step 2. Apply adhesive tape to the top of the helmet to hide the aerodynamic fins
The fake tummy doesn't have to look bumpy and uneven, so be sure to apply as many layers of tape as possible to give the bob a completely smooth look. When you finish covering it, you shouldn't notice any irregularities.
Step 3. Carefully secure or remove the helmet straps
If you are not going to use it for other purposes, you can just carefully cut them off using a sharp pair of scissors. But know that by doing so you could be wasting a good helmet! You can optionally slip the straps into it and use some duct tape to tie them into the dome, making sure they stay in place and don't hang down on the underside of your fake belly.
Step 4. Secure the helmet to your torso
There are several methods you can use to hold the helmet securely in place - you can even try more than one at the same time. You absolutely must make sure that it does not slip or fall!
- Wrap a sports headband tightly several times around the helmet and back. Apply as many layers as you need to secure it well and to make sure it looks smooth and round when you cover it up with a shirt.
- Secure the helmet with tape as explained in step 2.
- Wrap a few layers of bandage over the helmet to keep it in place.
Step 5. Wear a shirt to complete your fake pregnancy belly look
If the shirt is too tight, it may be obvious that the belly is a bit odd in shape, so it is best to choose a more comfortable and loose piece of clothing.
Method 2 of 3: Use two Blankets
Step 1. Get two blankets of medium thickness and size
Both should be about the size and weight of a bedspread - neither too big or thin like a sheet, nor thick like a duvet or quilt. Keep in mind that these two blankets will make up the bulk of your fake belly.
Avoid quilts that have long fringe on the edges, as it will make your tummy look quite weird
Step 2. Fold a diamond blanket
This will be the outer layer of the fake baby bump and you can use it to smooth the surface and add volume.
- Spread the blanket on the floor or a large surface such as a bed or table.
- Carefully fold each of the four corners towards the center of the blanket until all four touch each other. Do you remember the origami I guess from when you were a child? Imagine following the same first folding step with this blanket.
- The result should be an irregular rhombus or a square, depending on the original shape the blanket had. Don't worry if you don't get a perfect square, it doesn't matter.
Step 3. Wrap the second blanket around itself to create the bulk of the baby bump volume
It does not have to be a perfect sphere, but rather a shape enlarged towards the sides, to better imitate the appearance of pregnancy. When you roll it up, make sure one side stays smooth and soft, while the other side needs to hide all edges. Keep the smooth side outward, so that people cannot suspect that your belly is actually a blanket!
Step 4. Fold the first blanket around the second
This combination allows you to give a decent size to the belly, but you also have to make sure that it is believable. Pay attention during this step, to prevent the fake belly from starting to unravel after a few minutes that you have worn it.
- Place the second blanket in the center of the first.
- Take the four outer corners of the first (not the four that you had already folded towards the center) and fold them around the mass of the second, creating a kind of bundle.
- Secure the ends together with tape; Don't skimp on this step if you don't want the outer edges to loosen.
Step 5. Secure the blankets to your torso
You can follow the same basic procedure as for the previous helmet method.
- Wrap an elastic sports bandage tightly several times around the blankets and back, using as many layers as you need to keep your belly firm and look smooth.
- Secure the blankets with duct tape.
- Wrap a few layers of bandage over the blankets to keep them in place.
Step 6. Put a shirt over your fake belly and that's it
Since the blanket is not as firm as the helmet is, it might look a little awkward if you aren't able to make it as smooth as you'd like, so it's probably best to wear a loose, comfortable garment.
Method 3 of 3: Using an Inflatable Balloon
Step 1. Choose an inflatable beach ball of the appropriate size
You can find them in all diameters, so make sure you get one that's not too small or too big. Probably the "standard" size typical for beach toys is the most suitable for this purpose.
Step 2. Inflate the balloon about halfway
Blow the air inside the valve, being careful not to let it out, until the ball reaches about half or 3/4 of its full volume. You can adjust the width according to the size you want to give your belly.
If you want to get a huge belly, you can inflate the ball completely. In this way you will have the appearance of a cartoon pregnant person, but it could be just what you want, perhaps to create your own fancy dress costume
Step 3. Secure the inflatable ball to your torso
Again, you can use an elastic bandage, bandages, or tank top to wrap it. Since this fake belly weighs almost nothing, unlike the helmet or the two blankets, it is not necessary to tie it firmly to the body to hold it in place; a simple headband or fitted tank top should suffice.
Make sure you point the air valve towards the floor. If it is facing upwards or outwards it will be visible through the shirt, while if it is pointing towards you, it will probably irritate the skin and after a while it will start to hurt
Step 4. Put on a loose shirt to cover the top of the ball and you are ready to take on the world
With this method you can probably wear a tight shirt too! Try on a couple of different garments and see which one looks best on your fake belly.
Advice
- Observe how pregnant women move: how they walk, sit and bend.
- Learn how to sit, bend over or stand up.
- Walk a bit like a duck and keep your legs apart; when you sit down stretch them.
- Stroke your belly often and smile (don't just do this when people are looking at you, because then it will be obvious that you are faking it).
- If you really want to try to convince someone that you are pregnant, download a print of an ultrasound from the internet and go to specialized maternity and baby clothing stores (perhaps you will come across the person you want to convince).
- Put some blush on your face (dark red or bronze). You should add some on the body and arms as well, because in some pregnant women the skin color changes.
