Cleaning the screen regularly will allow you to see the display more clearly. There are many solutions on the market, but you can easily make one at home. Follow this guide to clean your computer screen the right way.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Clean the Screen
Step 1. Turn off the screen
This will not only reduce the risk of electrocution, but will make it easier for you to see dust and grime on the monitor.
Step 2. Remove dust with a dry cloth
Proceed with slow, circular movements. Do not put too much pressure on the screen. Make sure the cloth is lint-free and non-abrasive. Better if you use a large one, so you will avoid leaving fingerprints.
-
Non-abrasive cloths recommended:
- Microfiber
- Cotton t-shirt
- Cotton handkerchief
- Cotton dishcloth
-
Avoid the ones listed below, which are too abrasive:
- Blotting paper
- Terry cloth
- Paper handkerchief
Step 3. Put the cleaning solution on the cloth
Do not spray it directly on the screen. The drops can cause malfunctions and permanent damage, so it's best to spray it on the cloth. Use a little solution at a time, as excessive humidity can ruin the screen in the long run.

Step 4. Wipe off the dirt with the cloth
Proceed by describing small circles and avoiding pressing the screen. Do not scratch the stains, let the solution dissolve them.
- You may have to repeat this process several times if you have stubborn stains.
- When you're done cleaning, wipe away any excess moisture.
Step 5. Let the screen dry
Make sure the monitor is completely dry before turning it back on. This will prevent possible damage to internal components due to moisture.
Do not use a hairdryer or other appliances to speed up the drying process. Let the monitor air dry
Method 2 of 3: Prepare a Cleaning Solution
Step 1. Get the right water
Avoid using tap water when making your cleaning solution. Tap water is too rich in minerals which could damage the screen. Prefer distilled water. You can easily find it in many shops and supermarkets, or you can make it yourself.
Step 2. Add a cleaning agent
The two most popular for homemade solutions are isopropyl alcohol and white wine vinegar. Choosing one or the other is just a matter of personal preference, as both are effective in removing dirt. However, avoid mixing them together, choose only one.
- Do not use cleaning agents that contain ammonia, such as glass cleaners, as they can discolor the screen.
- If you use isopropyl acid, mix it with distilled water in a percentage not exceeding 50%. If you're using vinegar, start at a 50% concentration and add more if it's not strong enough.
- Vodka can replace isopropyl alcohol.
Method 3 of 3: Purchase a Cleaning Solution
Step 1. Read reviews
Every cleaning solution on the market uses a patented formula which, according to the manufacturer, is the best available. Before buying one, try to find out what people who have tried it before you think about it.
Some solutions act more like polishes than cleaners, so always read the product description carefully
Step 2. Get a complete cleaning kit
If you don't have a suitable cloth available, buy a cleaning kit. Usually a microfiber cloth is also included, which will be fine for the LCD screen.
Step 3. Try the cleaning wipes
If you want to avoid having to use a solution and cloth, you can purchase disposable wipes made specifically for cleaning monitors.
