Being more comfortable in bed and having less clutter in the closet are two of the benefits of knowing how to fold the sheets correctly. For most people, fresh, clean ones are more comfortable than crumpled and creased ones. Neatly folded sheets take up less space in wardrobes and drawers, and give an idea of greater order. It is important to learn how to fold them properly, whether they are smooth or have corners.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Fold a Fitted Sheet
Step 1. Remove it from the dryer or pick it up from the clothesline
This sheet has elasticated corners, which wrap around the mattress.
Step 2. Turn it inside out
Stand upright as you grab the sheet in front of you. Grab two adjacent corners (the parts that fit the shape of the mattress) with both hands; do this on one of the shorter sides of the sheet. Join these two corners together.
Step 3. Bring your hands together
Fold the corner of the sheet that you grabbed with your right hand over the corner of your left hand.
Step 4. Fold the other two corners
Hold both corners of the sheet you folded earlier with your left hand. Bring your right hand down and grab one of the two lower corners. Raise it and make it match with the two corners you keep with the left. The visible corner will be inside out.
Now, grab the last corner and fold it over the other three corners you hold with your left
Step 5. Place the folded sheet on a flat surface and smooth it out
Fold the two ends so that the stretch area is on top of the sheet. Fold the sides so that the elasticated edges are hidden; then continue folding to create a rectangle, this will be the final result.
If necessary, iron it as you fold it
Method 2 of 3: Fold a Smooth Sheet
Step 1. Grab two corners of the sheet lengthwise
Your arms may not be long enough to pull it, in which case you can ask someone for a hand, otherwise you can place it on the floor, so that it is fully extended.
Step 2. Fold the sheet in half
You will need to do this so that the adjacent corners fit together lengthwise. Smooth the surface once after folding, this is to prevent wrinkles from forming.
Step 3. Fold it again
You'll fold it along the first fold, so you'll end up with a long, narrow rectangle. Smooth it out again.
Step 4. Make the final fold
You should fold this sheet no more than three or four times, it depends on the size. Finally, you will fold it horizontally and join the corners. You can fold it one more time, which will give it a more square look.
Method 3 of 3: Fold a Pillowcase
Step 1. Hold the pillowcase in front of you
You will need to fold it from the bottom (so it will crease less), along the shorter side.
Step 2. Fold it once along the shorter side
You'll end up with a long, rectangular shape, which you'll need to smooth out.
Step 3. Fold two more times
Smooth it out each time after folding, so it won't crease. You should end up with a small, rectangular shape.
Advice
- When making the bed, arrange the top sheet with the decorated side upside down. This way, the moment you turn it over on the bedspread, you will see the printed part.
- Remove the sheets from the dryer while they are still warm. Freshly dried sheets are wrinkle-free and do not need to be ironed. If you have not been able to do this and they are now cold, moisten a small towel and put it in the dryer. Set a drying cycle lasting 15 minutes to remove all wrinkles.
- Make some sets of sheets to make it easier for you to search the closet. Tuck the fitted sheet with the elastic corners and pillow cases into the common sheet after folding them.
- Store the sheets in the closet or drawer. You should put them in a cool, dry place.
