It may seem that superheroes exist only in comics, TV shows and movies, but there are many people who perform heroic deeds and selfless deeds in everyday life. These people include policemen, paramedics and firefighters, who risk their lives every day to help other people and strangers in imminent danger. Even if you think you can't be like them, there are some accessible ways to become a hero in real life.
Steps
Step 1. Find out if you can handle a difficult situation
Being a hero can be a dangerous endeavor and can even put your life at risk.
Step 2. Don't try to become a hero for selfish reasons
Don't be a hero for fame or just for the fun of it. Do it because you truly believe it is the right thing to do.
Step 3. Often, the first thing you need to do to become a hero is to be a good example by doing the right thing
For example, helping people in need, or helping someone to get up after a fall, or even healing a wound or calling an ambulance are simple but virtuous acts.
Step 4. Remember that all lives are important
Step 5. If you witness an accident, do not immediately put yourself in a dangerous situation
Sometimes there are safer methods that are just as heroic. Eg:
- If you witness a robbery, call the police and tell everything you see by observing the scene from a distance.
- Help someone who is injured, such as someone who has been burned, has broken bones, etc., and has not yet received assistance.
Step 6. If you find yourself in a situation that requires medical assistance, try to take control of it while you wait for the ambulance to arrive
If this happens in public, you won't need much medical knowledge. Knowing how to take control of the situation, helping those who are injured, explaining what they must do while waiting for help, are all heroic acts. You may even be saving someone's life in this process.
Step 7. Be aware of your limitations and also when it is time to take action
Sometimes just thinking about when is the right time to act may not be a good idea. For example, if someone points a gun at you, don't try to take the gun and risk other people's lives. The criminal in question could shoot you and those close to you. Also, if you are not a healthy and active person, you could get hurt even more.
Step 8. Exercise and stay healthy
Many times, if you want people to admire you, you may even be a good example to imitate. Being healthy helps you stay fit and it will be easier for you to help others.
Step 9. Many times being a hero or doing selfless acts doesn't mean you have to risk your life
Often assisting those in difficulty, without being asked, or volunteering in a retirement home, being an exemplary role model by putting forward the needs of others, are excellent examples of generosity. But don't do it just for the fame. Here are some examples:
- Volunteer in a retirement home.
- Working in a homeless shelter at Christmas or in your free time.
- Working with people who have physical and / or mental problems.
- If you can afford it, make donations to children's associations and poor countries so you can help them have a better future.
Step 10. Take a self-defense or martial arts class
Knowing how to defend yourself and others is a great skill to learn as this way you will be able to protect yourself and other people quickly and safely. Use this method as a last resort and don't do it to look like a hero, as it could make the situation worse.
Step 11. Risking or sacrificing your life for someone is a virtuous gesture, but you need to know WHEN and HOW to act
If you try to save someone at the wrong time, or don't know how to do it, it could lead to dire consequences.
Step 12. Don't be afraid to ask for help
Sometimes, even those who help others need help, and this is not synonymous with humiliation. In fact, sometimes the right thing to do is to ask for help.
Step 13. Remember that being a good citizen and trying to be a hero isn't everything
On those rare occasions you can be a little selfish or you might go too far, so always be cautious.
Advice
- This is not a game, so you are not invincible and neither are the others. When someone dies, you can't resurrect them by pressing a button. Use common sense when you find yourself in a dangerous situation.
- Remember that if you do many selfless acts, people will admire you and take you as an example to imitate. Being a good example is a great way to inspire others, and it's also a good way to be a hero or perform heroic deeds.
- Every life is precious.
Warnings
- Don't lose your mind, don't overdo it, and don't act like you're the savior of the world. These behaviors usually have the opposite effect and you will appear as a nut rather than a hero.
- This is not a video game. You won't get a second chance to live, so don't lose your mind when dealing with a dangerous situation.
- To be a hero you have to understand that your life is also precious and when you find yourself in a difficult situation you cannot risk it just to be a hero.
