An operation to reduce plantar fasciitis is only advisable for a small number of patients, for whom traditional treatments have had no effect. This is typically done with an outpatient procedure. The healing time varies according to the type of plantar operation, which can be open or endoscopic. This article will show you how you can best recover from an operation to combat plantar fasciitis.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Open Surgery
Step 1. Wear the cast or brace for as long as indicated by the surgeon
This will typically take 2-3 weeks.
Step 2. Use the crutches provided with the cast so that your foot has time to heal
Remember that you won't be able to go to work for at least 4-8 weeks.
Step 3. Start wearing shoes with proper arch support as soon as you think you've recovered enough to wear them
Many patients start wearing shoes again after 3-6 weeks.
Step 4. Attend all doctor-prescribed appointments and rehabilitation therapy sessions
You will start a program to increase your strength and flexibility as soon as your doctor gives you the green light. br>
Step 5. Avoid all running and impact sports for at least 3 months
Method 2 of 2: Endoscopic Surgery
Step 1. Wear post-op shoes or brace for at least 3-7 days
If your doctor deems it necessary, you may need to wear them for a few more days.
Step 2. Avoid getting up for the first week, except to eat or go to the bathroom
Step 3. Try to wear shoes with insoles if your doctor allows you to do so after your first checkup
Your surgeon may determine that you will need to wear the brace or carry crutches for another week
Step 4. Start wearing footbed shoes as soon as you can tolerate them
Allow at least 3 weeks to pass before you start walking normally again. For some patients it may take longer.
Step 5. Attend all scheduled doctor visits and physiotherapy appointments
How long you need to be off work will depend on the type of profession you are in.
Some patients are allowed to return to work within a week if their profession does not require walking and standing for extended periods of time. On the other hand, if your job requires you to stand for extended periods of time, walk, jump or kneel, you will have to wait 3 more weeks
Step 6. Avoid running and jumping for at least 3 months
