You no longer need to use the calculator, but don't know how to turn it off? There are many standard calculators these days that do not have an "OFF" key. Devices of this type are designed to turn off automatically after a few minutes of inactivity. If you need to turn off the calculator immediately, you can do so using a few key combinations, depending on the make and model.
Steps
Method 1 of 6: Solar-powered or battery-powered calculators
Step 1. Wait for the calculator to turn itself off
Most modern calculators turn off automatically after a few minutes of inactivity. When you're done using the device, simply set it aside for a few minutes and wait for it to turn off on its own.
Step 2. Press a key combination
One of the following key combinations should turn off your calculator immediately, without having to wait a specific time. Press and hold one of the following key combinations:
- 2+3
- 5+6
- ÷+×
- 9+-
- 1+2+4+6
- 1+3+4+5
- 1+2+3
Step 3. Press and hold the "ON", "C / CE" or "AC" key for a moment, while holding down one of the key combinations shown in the previous step
If the combination chosen is the correct one, based on the make and model of the calculator, the calculator should turn off immediately.
Step 4. Try to cover the solar panel
In the case of a solar powered calculator you may be able to force it to shut down by completely covering the solar power panel with your finger. When the device no longer receives the light necessary for its operation, it will switch off immediately.
Method 2 of 6: Citizen calculators
Step 1. Wait for the calculator to turn off automatically
Citizen calculators turn off autonomously after about 8 minutes of inactivity, calculated from the last key pressed. After the indicated time has elapsed, the device should turn off automatically.
Step 2. Use a key combination to force the calculator to shut down
The following key combination is compatible with most Citizen calculator models:
ON + ÷ + × +% + Check + Correct + Correct
Method 3 of 6: Graphing or Scientific Calculators Texas Instruments
Step 1. Locate the 2nd keys And Hon.
On most Texas Instruments calculators, the "2nd" key is colored and is located on the left side of the keyboard. The color varies according to the model of the device, but it is normally well distinguishable from the other keys present. The "On" key is usually located on the right side of the keyboard above the number keys.
On some Texas Instruments calculator models, the "On" key is located in the lower left corner of the keyboard
Step 2. Press the 2nd button
This will activate the secondary function of all keys on the device.
Step 3. Press the On button
The calculator should shut down immediately.
To turn off the Nspire model of Texas Instruments calculators, press the keys in succession Ctrl And Hon.
Method 4 of 6: Casio Graphing or Scientific Calculators
Step 1. Locate the ⇧ Shift keys And B. C.
On most of Casio's graphing and scientific calculators, the "Shift" key is located in the upper left corner of the keyboard below the screen. The "AC" key is normally located on the right side of the keyboard above the number keys.
Step 2. Press the ⇧ Shift key
This will enable the secondary function of all keys on the keyboard.
Step 3. Press the AC button
The secondary function of the key in question allows you to turn off the calculator immediately.
Method 5 of 6: HP Graphical or Scientific Calculators
Step 1. Locate the ⇧ Shift keys And Hon.
On most HP calculators, the "Shift" key is located on the left side of the keyboard. The "On" key can be located on the right side of the keyboard or in the lower left corner of the keyboard.
Step 2. Press the ⇧ Shift key
This will enable the secondary function of all keys on the keyboard.
Step 3. Press the On button
The secondary function of the key in question allows you to turn off the calculator immediately.
Method 6 of 6: Casio DJ Series Calculators
Step 1. Press and hold the DISP button
It is usually located on the left side of the keyboard. Keep it pressed.
Step 2. Press the Correct button
It is typically located at the top or along the right side of the keyboard. Make sure you hold down the "DISP" key while pressing the "Correct" key.
Step 3. Release both buttons
At this point, press the key combination "DISP" and "Correct" to turn off the calculator.
