Want to know how to break into Bollywood? This article is about Bollywood and how to become part of it. Keep reading!
Steps
Step 1. Breakthrough in Bollywood is not easy at all
Unless, of course, you have a very famous relative in the world. So, go to Mumbai, and get ready for a grueling period in your life (which may never end). Millions of people reach Bollywood and get stuck in line, chasing directors for eternity. It's limbo, unless you're good enough to take flight.
Step 2. Enroll in a reputable acting school
It is always helpful. School, in addition to improving your acting skills, will be a stepping stone. Directors might come and choose someone during class.
Step 3. Sign up for Shiamak Dyavar's (or other teacher's) dance lessons
Bollywood actors (male or female) must know how to dance.
Step 4. Throw yourself into the world of fashion
Participating in contests like Miss India and winning, and then even becoming Miss World, will increase your chances exponentially! Directors will not choose random strangers. They need to verify your industry experience.
Step 5. Work on your appearance
Is very important. Some actors have managed to base their careers solely on acting, but that's quite rare. Train, eat well. TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY.
Step 6. Take care of your skin, hair and everything else
Get a good attitude. A confident person always has an advantage in auditions.
Step 7. Do lots of auditions
DO as much as you can. Practice well in front of the mirror, and get into character. Remember to speak well and CLEARLY.
Step 8. Do R-E-T-E
This is probably the most important part of making it into Bollywood. GO to parties. Be nice to co-workers - they could be your ladder to success. Meet new directors. New producers. Their wives. Their husbands. Their children. The grandmothers. Family is very important in Bollywood, so whoever you know is important.
Step 9. Hold on
It will not be easy. You may have to try a million times. Maybe you won't make it. Maybe yes. But you have to insist. In the meantime, find a job to support yourself. Being an up and coming artist isn't very profitable.
Step 10. You can't afford to be selective
You may get weird or not-your-equal roles. But they might be your only chance to break into Bollywood. Only a lucky person gets more than one chance over there.
Advice
- If a director tells you that you will be in his movie, don't celebrate right away. You could just be yet another emerging stalker that the director tries to get rid of. Or he might even change his mind.
- Do not do anything that will irritate directors or producers. Be diplomatic. Don't say anything against anyone in any interview or conversation.
- If you CAN break through, immediately stop acting like a star. Don't forget your old friends. And be modest. By asking for huge payouts after your first role in a decent movie, you will be left out.
Warnings
- You may want to settle for something small. TV, for example. You could try the climb to Bollywood AFTER a few soap operas and TV series.
- Don't make hasty or extreme choices to get what you want.
- If you think Bollywood is not for you, try a little harder, but then forget it. Don't waste your entire existence like this.
