The time has come to make your dream come true. Long last! Maybe you've had a flash of inspiration or just feel like joining a multi-billion dollar industry. Whatever your motivation, making an adult film is as difficult as producing a regular film - with the added attention to legalities, social stigmas and ever-present temptation. If all this sounds fun to you, you've come to the right place. ! Your dreams are about to come true.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Plan the Movie
Step 1. Choose the concept
Pornographic films often draw inspiration from existing films, modifying famous titles and loading them with double meanings (example: "Star Wars" becomes "Star Whores"). - What elements of pop culture can you draw inspiration from?
- Other examples of titles from other films include Jack Reach-around, Breast of Memphis, Skyball 0069, or The Night Night Saga: Going Down.
- The concept doesn't necessarily have to be a parody. You can opt for a single setting that focuses on an intimate moment between the characters or for a more ambitious production that has an original plot behind it, like the classic "Deep Throat".
Step 2. Consider the logistical aspects
Now that you've found the concept, what do you need to make it a reality? What obstacles are you able to foresee? Things to consider in the initial planning phase include:
-
Market. Decide if your movie will be released in theaters, on DVD or on an online distribution service.
- Film length. Depending on the concept and the market, your film may be 5-10 minutes or as long as a classic film.
- Number of actors. This aspect will be directly related to the duration of the film. While you can make a traditional length film with a very small cast - even just one or two actors, a porn needs to maintain freshness between scenes.
- Props and sets. If your movie is about space aliens, you'll need to stock up on green makeup and tinfoil. What does your concept require?
Step 3. Make a budget estimate
Ideally, you will have investor support. Your manufacturer's pockets will be deep and you won't have any money problems. In reality though, you will probably have your roommate's camera and the tape you stole from school. Here are some things to consider:
- Purchase or rental of equipment - lighting, sound, editing and music.
- Actors. If you're shooting an amateur couple for just one scene, your budget will be pretty tight. The price for a star, on the other hand, will naturally be much higher than that of a beginner who is only looking for the chance to act. Avoid hiring friends, especially men - porn is a demanding activity that requires stamina, control, and the ability to act as directed by the director. Fitness is very important, and as far as men are concerned, size does matter.
- Location - you won't be able to shoot a porn movie wherever you want. You will need a place where you will not be interrupted, where you will not risk police intervention and where you will not disturb the neighbors. You can go around your house if that's not a problem for you.
Step 4. Write the script
You don't necessarily have to create dialogue; what matters is what will happen in each scene. A lot of porn contains very tight dialogue, as well as requests for what to put in where and how.
Save up and write the script yourself if you think you can. Nobody will criticize your film because the script was not of quality. If the most original sentence you can write is "How do you plan to pay for the Miss pizza?" do not worry. You can hire a writer if you want, but you should allocate the budget some other way
Step 5. Make a sketch of the storyboard:
you don't have to be an artist, stick figures will do. The idea is to show the angles for each individual scene and know how the shots will be structured. Experiment with composition now, because a closer shot isn't always the best solution. You will need to create a pleasantly shot film, even if it won't end up at the Venice Film Festival.
Step 6. Hire the actors
Take the auditions early and make sure you comply with all applicable laws. In some states, saying the wrong things in an audition can lead to arrest. Make sure you're honest with the actors right away - they might be hard to handle during a blindfolded scene. They will need to know exactly what awaits them - from the filming schedule to the variety of sexual acts they will have to perform. You too will have to understand what they will be willing to do. There is no room for shyness!
-
You may want to consider hiring stunts for the face or body. After four hours of work, the actors may lose the stimulus. Or you might find great actors who don't have the right body. With clever filming and editing in post-production, you could use two actors for the same part. It will be more expensive, but you will get a higher quality finished product.
Step 7. Take care of the legal aspects
Search the internet for a specialized lawyer who will help you with the contracts, releases and documents needed for the crew and actors. Just because it's a porn movie doesn't mean there aren't any laws and regulations to follow.
Step 8. Find the crew
It should be easy to find them, promising them a good salary and anonymity. If your budget is tight, it will be difficult to have the staff of a traditional film (read: it will be you and your cameraman), but you should always try to fill these technical roles, if the expenses allow it.
- The director will be the one who will transfer your vision to film. You could be the director, or you could hire a professional.
- The cameraman is very important to the success of the film, even more than the actors. He will know how to get the most out of every angle and can work with the cinematographer to get the best results.
-
The cinematographer will take care of the lighting and will work with the director and cameraman to light the scene in the right way.
- The sound engineer will be responsible for capturing all moans, moans and other sounds from the film. It can also help you with the soundtrack.
- On many sets there is a photographer who takes pictures while filming. You can use these images for your DVD, on your website or as merchandising.
Step 9. Plan your shoot
Work with the crew to plan each scene and the order in which it will be most convenient to shoot them. Remember that the film should not be shot sequentially, unless it consists of a single act. Take into account the unexpected: scenes that last longer than you expected, poor performances of the actors …
Part 2 of 3: Shoot Your Film
Step 1. Build or prepare the set
Before shooting, make sure the set is ready and everything you need is in place. From the door to the bed sheets, everything must be perfect. Make a list of things to check before you start shooting. Here are some ideas to include:
- Set the room temperature so it isn't too hot or too cold.
- The light must have been tested before shooting, so the actors won't get distracted during the performance.
- The cables must not be visible and must be covered to prevent someone from tripping over them. An actor who falls tumbling to the ground is not foreseen in the script.
- Take care of the placement of the microphone so that it is not visible in the room.
-
Make sure all props are where they should be, so the actors don't get distracted if they don't find them.
- Close the curtains and lock the doors. You don't want the neighbors' child to see your movie!
- Make food and drink available to the cast and crew. People are hungry on set, especially if they are tired. If they have special (and reasonable) requests, satisfying them can create a team that can't wait to work with you.
Step 2. Start shooting
Gather your cast and crew and make sure everyone knows where they need to be at all times. Create a schedule, including the filming date and time for each scene, and which actors will be in attendance. When everything is ready, start shooting: "Ciak, action!"
- Don't be afraid to shout "SIZE!" if necessary. If the actors need further guidance, you'll need to provide it to get the result you hope for. And if something unexpected happens, the scene starts again, even if it's almost over. This is what the artistic process requires.
- If you've hired the right actors, they'll be able to get back into position and be off again in no time. Stopping them during a scene is your job. It will serve to make the film better.
Step 3. Correct the errors
If you've ever had sexual intercourse, you know that problems and unforeseen events often arise. Very often. Especially before things start to heat up. Have Viagra and lube handy and remind the actors to smile! Even if they give you dirty looks.
Be patient. Sometimes a scene will require twenty takes. Others will need to take breaks. In some cases the evening will come and you will find yourself shooting a scene that was supposed to end at 5pm. And in others the actors will stop following you. Yours won't be an easy task. But remember that you have the last word. Make it clear to everyone and move on
Step 4. Finish shooting
When you're done shooting the film, let everyone know - even the actors who stayed and are distracted. Be sure to thank everyone for their efforts and be willing to talk about the film and their thoughts. Pay what is due to those who have finished their work.
Clean the set, making sure it is clean and fragrant. Then send the crew home and have a meeting with the director to review the scenes shot. Choose the best ones and plan the assembly phase. You will probably be the one editing the scenes. You know how to do it, don't you?
Part 3 of 3: Creating the Final Product
Step 1. Edit the film
If you want to save a lot of money, do the post-production yourself. If you don't have a problem with money, work with the director and editor to edit the film, add the transitions between the scenes, the titles and the music. Cherry on the cake.
-
If necessary, double the film. It won't help if you have taken care of the audio during filming and if possible you should avoid it. It is a complex operation that if done incorrectly will negatively affect your film. In some cases, however, it is necessary.
- Take care of the final version of the sound and add sound effects, noises and music. You know the classic porn riffs? No porn movie is complete without them. Bow chicka wow wow.
Step 2. Distribute the film and take care of the packaging
It will not be enough to send the film to friends. You will need to create a package available for sale. In what formats will you sell the film? How will you advertise it?
The photos will be useful to you for this. If you are going to release the film on DVD only, it won't be difficult to design a package. What about internet advertisements or your website page? How can you spread the word and generate demand?
Step 3. Promote your movie
Now that you've spent thousands of dollars to make a film, you'll need to find ways to make money. You could enjoy your movie alone at home, but that way you couldn't show it to the world and you would find yourself poorer than the actors you hired. Here are some options for getting a return on your investment.
- Sell your movie on a subscription site. There is a plethora of porn pages on the internet. Many of them are free, but the paid ones offer higher quality. Get in touch with various companies. - -
- Create your website. This way you can keep most of your profits. Just as if you decide to publish a book yourself, you will have to attract the audience yourself in this case.
- Sell it in sex shops. If you've created a DVD, you can make a few hundred copies and offer it to adult stores.
- Sell it to magazines that include a free DVD. Use the contacts you have or contact an agent.
Step 4. Use the film to start your own company
Boom! The first movie is done. From here the road is downhill. Once you associate your name with a good quality movie, the doors can open for you. Start attending conventions, working on other films, and meeting people. Low-end adult movies don't produce big monetary returns, but if you take the time into this business, you may be able to become a real pro.
Now that you've tried the process yourself, you can make any changes you like. Still need a photographer on set? A cinematographer? A writer? A sound engineer? What part of the process didn't work? Consider investing more or less in your next film
Advice
- Don't talk about your work with your friends or family. You may want to be honest and share what you consider to be an exciting profession, but you will often run into criticism. Maintain a healthy distance between your professional and private life to prevent bad five minutes.
- Don't underestimate your work by thinking that no one would pay for your product. It's like asking yourself: "Why go to the cinema to see a big budget movie when I can watch videos on YouTube?".
- Getting a commission job for a magazine can be a steady source of income for a growing film producer.
- Don't have sexual relations with your actors. Try as I might, think of it this way: if you were to film a football team, do you think the athletes would be happy if you came onto the pitch to play with them?
- Be professional. You won't go far if you don't invest in the quality of your production. And you don't want to be ashamed of it when one day you see her displayed in a sex shop or posted on the internet.
Warnings
- You will have to respect all the laws, so don't take risks and rely on a good lawyer.
-
Actors will have to undergo medical tests, even if they use condoms. An illness would damage both their private and professional life.
Make sure the tests are done every two months
- The crew, especially the actors, will need to be sure they are working in a professional and healthy environment.
