Eyeliner has the power to make the eyes stand out, whether with a thin line or with a more defined one. It only takes a few minutes, a mirror and a pencil, liquid or gel eyeliner to intensify your gaze. Even if you are a beginner, you can quickly learn the secrets of a perfect row.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Apply a Liquid Eyeliner
Step 1. Shake the product
To make sure the pigments and liquid are well blended, shake the tube for a few seconds. Make sure you close it well first. At this point, open it and pick up the applicator.
If you have taken too much product with the applicator, pass it over the edge of the tube
Step 2. Start from the center
Place the brush on the upper lash line, then start applying the eyeliner towards the outer edge.
If you are afraid of not being able to make a straight line, at first you can outline the line of the upper lashes with a pencil, then go over the line with a liquid eyeliner
Step 3. Fill in the blanks
Once you have finished outlining the outer corner, apply the eyeliner on the inner edge of the mobile eyelid and connect this last stroke to the rest of the line. Make short strokes to join the lines and fill in the blanks as needed, until you get an even line.
If you make a mistake, soak a cotton swab in makeup remover and fix it. It will help you get rid of excess product or correct crooked edges
Step 4. Apply eyeliner to the lower lashline to create a wing
It is an optional step with liquid eyeliner, but it can intensify the final result. If you wish, draw a stroke following the curve of the outer edge of the lower lashes, until it joins it with the upper line; at this point it colors the inside of the wing.
- If you don't want too intense an effect, try creating a small wing, and lengthening it to intensify the makeup.
- You can use the edge of a business card to help you draw a straight line. Place the cardboard on the outer edge of the eyelid calculating the right angle and make a trace along the edge with the eyeliner.
- You can also draw a wing with the help of adhesive tape. Attach some adhesive tape under the lower lash line, calculating the right angle. It should be adjacent to the lower lash line, extending towards the eyebrow. You can give it the inclination you want: the greater the inclination, the more intense the final result will be. If you prefer a more subtle result, reduce it.
Method 2 of 4: Apply a Pencil Eyeliner
Step 1. Prepare the pencil
To make sure the stroke is accurate, it should have the right consistency: if it's hard, you may want to reheat it, while if it's too soft it may need to be cooled.
- To heat the pencil, place it on a flame for a few seconds. It will soften and acquire a gel-like consistency. Before applying it to the eye, test it on the wrist.
- To cool it, put it in the freezer for about 10 minutes before application, in this way it will not shatter.
Step 2. Hold the outer corner of the mobile eyelid still
Place your fingers on the outer edge of the upper lash line and gently pull the skin outwards until it is stretched. This will create a straight, even line. You may also want to close your eyelid.
- Raise the eyebrows, so that the skin of the eyelid is even more taut and does not hinder the drawing.
- It is also useful to rest the elbow on a table or other surface to have a steady hand.
Step 3. Start from the inner corner
Start outlining the inner corner of the mobile eyelid and continue towards the outer corner. Make sure to go slowly and draw short strokes to get an even line.
If you want to enlarge your eyes and open your gaze, apply a lighter color only in the inner corner of the mobile eyelid. For example, you could use a creamy white pencil in the inner corner of the eye and a brown one on the outer edge
Step 4. For a more natural effect, try the tight lining technique
It consists of applying eyeliner very close to the lash line, also filling every single space between one lash and another. You will make your eyes stand out without creating too intense a result.
- You can use it on the upper and / or lower eyelid.
- For an even more natural effect, try using a neutral tone, such as a light brown.
Step 5. Outline the lower lash line
If you decide to do this, place a finger on the outer edge of the lashes and smooth out the skin. Then start applying the pencil by drawing short strokes, just like you did on the mobile eyelid.
- For an intense effect, completely outlines the line of the lower lashes and that of the upper lashes.
- For a discreet effect, outline the lower lashline only halfway. You can also use a lighter tone on this area, such as a beige.
Method 3 of 4: Eyeliner Gel Application
Step 1. Pick up the eyeliner with a brush
Gel eyeliner is usually sold in a jar, so you will need a brush for application. When you want to do your makeup, open the jar and dip the brush into the gel, coating only the tip or edge.
Gel eyeliner can dry out quickly, so be sure to close it immediately after using it. If it feels dry or hard, warm it in your hands to make it easier to use
Step 2. Start applying it on the inner and outer corner
To begin with, apply it to the inner corner of the eye, proceeding towards the center, but do not fill it for now. At this point, apply it on the outer corner, proceeding towards the edge.
- If you have single eyelid eyes, apply eyeliner by drawing a thick arc. This way, when you open your eyes you will be able to see the line of eyeliner.
- You can also draw several points along the lash line and join them to create the line.
Step 3. Apply the eyeliner to the center
After drawing a line on the inner and outer edge, fill in the empty parts in the center. Draw light and short strokes to obtain an even line along the upper lashline. To make sure it is homogeneous, it may be necessary to go through it several times.
- If necessary, take more gel. Sometimes it is possible to complete an eye by dipping the brush once, other times it is necessary to repeat.
- Blend the eyeshadow on the edge of the line to achieve a smoky effect.
Method 4 of 4: Do Smoky Cat Eye Makeup
Step 1. Create a base
Apply a neutral eyeshadow to your eyelid, then go with a slightly darker color. For example, you can use a nude eyeshadow and then a light brown one.
Apply the eyeshadows all over the mobile eyelid with a soft brush
Step 2. Apply a medium brown eyeshadow on the outer corner of the mobile eyelid
You will begin to emphasize the outer corner of the eyelid and create a good make-up base. After applying the brown eyeshadow, spread a black one on the same area.
Apply a black eyeshadow also on the inner corner of the eyelid to achieve a smoky effect
Step 3. Brighten the center of the mobile lid
Use a light and bright eyeshadow of your choice, for example champagne, cream or white. Tap it in the center of the eyelid using a soft brush.
Step 4. Outline the upper lash line
Once you have finished applying the eyeshadow, start outlining the upper lashline with a black eyeliner. Apply it in the inner corner and on the outer edge of the mobile eyelid, then in the central part.
If you use a gel eyeliner, take it evenly with the brush, without lumps
Step 5. Draw a wing
At this point, with the eyeliner go over the edge of the mobile eyelid and proceed upwards. Follow the curve of the lower lash line to help you create the wing, then color the area between the center of the wing and the line of eyeliner on the mobile lid.
By now, you should have achieved a cat eye makeup with an intense smoky effect
Step 6. Apply mascara and false lashes as desired
The mascara helps define the eyes, while the false lashes intensify the final effect.
Before applying mascara, curl your lashes to make them more voluminous and defined
Advice
- Do not make long strokes when applying eyeliner; instead try to make shorter ones to exert more control and get a cleaner line. This trick works with all types of eyeliner.
- If the eyeliner does not release color, heat it with a hairdryer or an old hair straightener. This should facilitate its use. Make sure you don't let it melt.
- If you have difficulty removing make-up from your eyes, use baby oil and a cotton swab.
- Wash your brushes regularly with makeup remover or a mild gel shampoo.
- Applying powdered eyeliner to the pencil one will set it and soften the makeup.
- If you have dry skin it can be difficult to blend, so apply a light cold cream on your face and remove it with a cloth, before putting on the eyeliner. It will be hydrated enough to facilitate the application of the pigment on the skin surface.
- To remove the eyeliner, apply a damp cloth to the affected area and massage gently.
- Do not touch your eyes after applying the eyeliner, otherwise it will smudge on the eyelid and hand.
- If you want to get a natural effect, for the inner rim of the eye, prefer a flesh-colored or peach-colored eyeliner to a white one.
- When you apply eyeliner, do not pull the skin too much. This can cause premature wrinkles to appear and the line will not be clean.
Warnings
- Do not share the eyeliner with other people, otherwise you risk transferring bacteria and infections. If you really have to lend it, clean the tip with make-up remover or isopropyl alcohol. Also, replace your eye makeup every 30-60 days to decrease the risk of infection.
- Applying eyeliner to the inner rim of the eye can cause eye infections and increase the risk of the product ending up in the eye.
- Pay attention to the amount of eyeliner you use: better not to use it at all than to overdo it.
