Once you try homemade eyeliner you will never go back, because it couldn't be easier to make, it doesn't drip, it doesn't irritate the skin and most importantly, you can use it to create your favorite looks. Here are two different ways to make black eyeliner and how to combine it with other colors.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Use Activated Charcoal
Step 1. Buy activated carbon
It is available both in pharmacies and in stores that sell natural products. It is generally indicated against indigestion and is sold in capsules. This all-natural, pure black substance is perfect for making home-made eyeliner.
- Activated charcoal is not what you use to cook on the grill. You need to look for pills whose labels indicate "activated charcoal" as the main ingredient.
- If you can't find an activated carbon product at local stores, you can also place an order on a website. One pack of activated charcoal capsules contains enough to provide you with eyeliner for several years.
Step 2. Break a few capsules into a small container
You can use the container of an old eyeshadow or lip balm, a small can, or other container that you have on hand. Break the activated charcoal capsules and pour the substance into the container.
Step 3. Dip the eyeliner brush in the activated charcoal
You can use pure activated carbon, without mixing it with other substances, because it will naturally blend with the sebum produced by your skin, setting itself. Dip the brush into the container and apply it however you like.
Step 4. Experiment with different textures
If you prefer a thicker or more gel-like consistency, you can mix activated charcoal with water or oil to moisten it. Start gradually, with a couple of drops at most and continue adding the liquid until you reach the desired consistency. You can try mixing activated charcoal with the following ingredients:
- Waterfall;
- Jojoba oil;
- Almond oil;
- Coconut oil
- Gel based on aloe vera.
Method 2 of 3: Use Almonds
Step 1. Gather what you need
Here is a great alternative to activated charcoal. The ash of burnt almonds is a perfect powder to use as an eyeliner, because it is intense and black, perfectly identical to the product you buy in beauty shops. All you will need is:
- Unroasted and unsalted raw almonds;
- A pair of tweezers;
- A lighter;
- A small container or plate;
- Butter knife.
Step 2. Hold the almond with tweezers and burn it
Use tweezers to hold the almond firmly and not to burn yourself while holding the lighter under it. The almond will burn very slowly, until it smokes. Reduce at least half of the almond to ash. It must be black and smoky.
- If the tweezers you are using are made of metal, they may overheat and burn you, due to prolonged use of the lighter. Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- It is advisable to rotate the almond in a circle to make it burn on all sides.
Step 3. Scrape the ash from the almond to drop it into the pot
Black ash is all you need to make your own eyeliner. Use a butter knife to scrape it off the almond and collect it on the plate. If you need more ash, keep burning the almond or burn more than one to get more on your plate.
- After scraping off the ash, make sure there are no unburned pieces of almond in the pot. The consistency should be fine and powdery, with no large pieces.
- Go through the ash and remove all the big shots.
Step 4. Dip the eyeliner brush in almond ash
You can use pure ash without mixing it with other substances, because it will naturally mix with the sebum produced by your skin, setting itself. Dip the brush into the eyeliner container and apply it however you like.
Step 5. Experiment with different textures
If you want your eyeliner to have a thicker or more gel-like texture, you can mix the ash with water or oil to moisten it. Start gradually, with a couple of drops at most and continue adding the liquid until you reach the desired consistency. You can try mixing the ash with the following ingredients:
- Waterfall;
- Jojoba oil;
- Almond oil;
- Coconut oil.
Method 3 of 3: Get Different Colors
Step 1. Use cocoa to make a tan eyeliner
The bitter cocoa powder gives your eyeliner a dark brown tint, with a wonderfully full-bodied color. Add a spoonful to the container. Mix the cocoa with a few drops of water, jojoba oil or almond oil until it reaches the consistency of a gel, then apply it with the brush.
Step 2. Spirulina is recommended for green eyeliner
Spirulina powder is a derivative of dried seaweed with a beautiful green color. Pour some spirulina powder into a dish and then apply or mix it with water or oil to get the gel effect.
Step 3. For a reddish color, use beet root powder
Red eyeliner is probably not the color for you, however adding this powder to activated charcoal or bitter cocoa will create a reddish color that goes perfectly with warmer skin tones.
Step 4. Buy some mica powder for colored eyeliner
Mica powder is sold in all colors of the rainbow. It is a product widely used in all types of makeup, from eyeshadow to lip gloss. Search the internet to find the right color powder for you. Use it the same way you would use activated charcoal - you can mix it with water, aloe or oil to create an instantly applicable gel.
Step 5. Make a new eyeliner from an old eyeshadow
Even a worn eyeshadow can become an eyeliner. Take old, broken eyeshadow and put it in a container. Use a knife to crumble it into a very fine powder. Mix it with a little water, aloe vera or oil to create a gel and then apply it with the eyeliner brush.
