Sooner or later, even the best brushcutter needs a new line. At first glance it might seem like a complicated maintenance job, but be aware that replacing the wire on this tool is not difficult at all. With a little help, you can start mowing again in no time.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Single Line Brushcutter
Step 1. Prepare the thread
The length and diameter depend on the type of brush cutter you have. If you buy the wrong diameter wire, the tool will not work; for this reason, do not waste time and money trying to guess the right spare part in the hardware store! If you are not sure what to buy, visit the tool manufacturer's website first or call customer service, who should be able to help you. The length of the wire is also a variable factor, generally between 3 and 7.5 m. If in doubt, err on the side of things, you can always cut the thread later.
Step 2. Make sure the engine is off
If your model has a gearbox, make sure it is cool to avoid accidents.
Step 3. Remove the head retaining cap
You will likely need to unscrew it, press one or more locking tabs, or a combination of both. Some models use different mechanisms to remove the coil; although they are designed to be intuitive, contact the manufacturer's customer service if you have any difficulty understanding how they disassemble.
Step 4. Locate the coil start hole
Insert the tip of the thread and wind it following the direction of the arrows. The thread must be wound in tight and straight coils, to prevent it from becoming knotted later. When only 13-15cm of line remains, secure this "tail" in the bobbin locking mechanism.
Step 5. Align the locking mechanism with the notch on the outside of the print head
Insert the spool into the head and remove the line from the locking mechanism by pulling it through the notch, so you are sure it can run freely. At this point you can reassemble the fixing cap.
Part 2 of 3: Double Line Brushcutter

Try to wind the thread in precise, straight and tight coils, to prevent it from becoming tangled later. When there is only 13-15cm of thread left, lock it into the fastening mechanism to hold it in place. Repeat the same process with the second strand. At this point you should end up with two "tails" of line on opposite sides of the spool, which correspond to the slots on the outside of the head.
Step 5. Disconnect the wires from each other's locking mechanisms
Thread each of them into the slots and insert the spool into the head, pulling the threads through the notch to make sure they run freely. Now you can refit the fixing cap.
Part 3 of 3: Quick Release Head

Step 2. Make sure the engine is off
If your model has a gearbox, make sure it is cold to avoid possible accidents.
Step 3. Rotate the locking cap so that the arrows line up with the slots
You should be able to see the light through the head when looking into the buttonholes.
Step 4. Thread the end of the thread into a buttonhole
It should go through the other slot on the opposite side of the print head. Grab both ends and pull them so that both strands are the same length. Turn the head clockwise until you have 13-15cm of line sticking out of the head.
Advice
- Don't force anything. For example, if the coil does not fit easily on the brush cutter head, do not force it to mount it, otherwise you run the risk of breaking it. Stop for a moment, re-read the instructions and check what you've done so far to figure out where the problem is.
- The moment you disassemble the brush cutter, whether single or double line, is an excellent opportunity to clean the head. Use a soft cloth to wipe off any residue.
- Take advantage of the replacement of the wire to lubricate even all the most important parts; these are different by model, but the coil or bearings should be lubricated.
- If you have trouble threading the bobbin starter hole, try cutting the ends to form a tip.
