Keeping an iron perfectly clean and in full working order is relatively simple and requires a few simple steps.
Steps
Step 1. To clean the inside of an iron, you will need to fill the tank halfway with water
Add vinegar until you reach the maximum capacity level.
Step 2. Turn on the iron and let it heat up for about 15 minutes, then let it cool down for about an hour
Drain the solution of water and vinegar left in the iron.
Step 3. Fill the iron with water and repeat the previous step without using vinegar
Drain the water left in the iron, it is now ready for use.
Step 4. To clean the soleplate of the iron, buy a special product at your local supermarket
Normally the products for cleaning irons are found in the same department as the detergents for washing laundry. These products are used to clean non-stick plates. Always remember to follow the instructions on the product packaging.
Step 5. Non-stick plates are usually self-cleaning and require little maintenance
Step 6. Finished
Advice
- Burnt starch is easily removed using a wet abrasive sponge. Make sure the iron is cold before cleaning, you will avoid burning yourself.
- If plastic has melted on the soleplate of the iron, you can remove it without problems. Place a sheet of aluminum foil on the ironing board and sprinkle it with cooking salt. Now pass the hot iron over the aluminum foil, the salt will help remove the plastic from the soleplate of your iron. Never try to remove plastic with metal objects. You could damage the plate irreparably.
