What is the best way to vacuum a carpet so that it doesn't go through the same area twice? And how do you vacuum so you don't walk over the already cleaned part? Using a vacuum cleaner, in general, is not the favorite task of people, but it must be done regularly and knowing how to do it efficiently will allow you to speed things up, quickly freeing you from the burden and allowing you to carry out more fun activities!
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Preparation
Step 1. Connect the cord near the area where you want to start vacuuming
The less cable you have to stretch, the better, as there will be fewer obstacles. The longer the cable, the greater the likelihood of tangling it, in addition to the fact that it makes the appliance more difficult to handle. If you need to vacuum a particularly large carpet, it is advisable to clean one half of it by connecting the appliance to a power outlet and the other half to another nearby outlet.
Step 2. Check the carpet for debris
Large pieces of dirt should be collected by hand, to create less pressure and effort for the vacuum cleaner. Pick up the pieces of paper, wrappers, lint or animal hair balls, paper clips, etc., basically anything you can easily see with the naked eye and pick up with ease. So throw them away.
Step 3. Sweep around the area of the carpet
If the floor is made of wood or similar material, sweep all debris out of this area before vacuuming.
Part 2 of 2: Aspiration Techniques
Step 1. Move the appliance spout back and forth
Most vacuum cleaners are designed to clean better when you pull the brush towards you. For this reason it is best to move the nozzle back and forth, going slower when you pull back, but increasing the speed when you push it.
Step 2. Move the vacuum cleaner forward about 1-2 meters
Then slowly retrace the section of carpet to bring the brush back to where it started.
Step 3. Before starting the second pass, fold the vacuum cleaner about 5 cm to the right to create a second path always 1-2 meters next to and parallel to the first
Step 4. Continue like this all along the carpet until you reach the opposite side
Then, walk backwards for 1-2 meters so that the last pass of the vacuum cleaner ends where you started the previous one.
Step 5. Try to create paths so that you walk in the places not yet aspirated
This way you avoid leaving fingerprints and marks on the already cleaned area.
Step 6. Move backwards to reach the end of the carpet
Step 7. If the carpet is very dirty or in an area with a lot of traffic, repeat the entire cleaning process following a direction perpendicular to the first passes
Or, if you originally worked east to west, now move north to south. This allows you to better clean the carpet fibers by removing dirt and dust deeper.
Advice
- Move slowly when you pull the vacuum cleaner towards you, because this is the phase in which the appliance sucks up best. A slow movement gives the appliance time to clean thoroughly and vacuum deeply.
- Check the bottom of the nozzle and the roller brush to remove any large debris that may be trapped and obstruct the flow of air and suction. You should have already removed the larger residues before vacuuming, but if you haven't done so and the airflow seems poor, do more control.
- Check that the bag or drum is not full, otherwise it greatly reduces the power and suction capacity of the appliance.
Warnings
- Always unplug the cord when checking the bag, drum or underside of the vacuum cleaner.
- Never use it on liquids, unless it is a device specifically indicated for fluids or which has a specific unit for wet. If it is not designed to collect liquids, it could cause a short circuit and destroy the vacuum cleaner.
