It is very easy to build a plasterboard partition wall (with wooden frame) for the interior of your home. You will need a few tools and building material for this type of inexpensive wall. After reading this article, you will no longer need some company to do it for you!
Steps
Step 1. Determine the type of drywall you need
- White drywall is not water resistant and is very economical.
- Blue or green drywall is water resistant but costs 2-3 times more.
Step 2. Mark a line on the floor where you want to install the wall
Step 3. Cut some wood for the frame and assemble it, using a screwdriver
You can also use super glue but it is not recommended if you plan to take the walls apart in the future.
Step 4. Measure and cut the drywall
Step 5. Use screws to secure the drywall to the frame
Step 6. Insulate the walls if desired
Cut the insulation material properly and apply it to the inside of the frame. Make sure you have the right type of insulation, based on your needs: heat or noise or both.
Step 7. Use mortar or paper to cover the wall
Advice
- It is easier to build the wall while it is resting on the ground. This way you will make sure that all the corners are right and you can drill holes, pass the wires, etc. When you are done, stand it up and connect the base to the floor supports and do the same with the panel that goes up against the ceiling. You will likely need help holding the panels in place as you secure them.
- Always make sure the wood grain of the various boards are in the same direction to avoid a wavy wall. Mark the longer sides of the wood with a pencil and when assembling it always keep these sides in the same direction.
Warnings
- Do not use white plasterboard if there is a chance that it will get wet. This type of drywall absorbs moisture well and will be ruined if it is too wet.
- Do not bend the drywall. If you do, you will have a hard time working.
