This article explains how to find out if one of your Snapchat friends is currently online. It should be noted that there is no 100% secure way to know when a user is online on Snapchat, however it is possible to determine if the recipient of your snap has viewed it or not or if they have accessed your chat.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Send a Snap
Step 1. Launch the Snapchat app by selecting the corresponding icon
Tap the Snapchat icon featuring a small white ghost on a yellow background. If you are already logged in with your account, the view taken by the main camera of the device will be shown on the screen.
If you are not logged in yet, press the button Log in, enter the username (or the email address or phone number associated with the profile) and the security password, then press the button Log in.
Step 2. Go to the Friends tab
Swipe your finger across the screen to the right starting from the app's main screen (the one that shows the view taken by the device's camera). A list of all friends you have recently had contact with will be displayed.
Step 3. Find the name of the person you want to check
Scroll down the list until you find the name of the friend you recently sent a snap to.
Step 4. View the page related to the conversation you had with the selected person
Swipe your finger over the user's name from left to right.
Step 5. Send a new message to the selected person
Type your message text, then press the button Send.
Step 6. Wait for the Bitmoji of the friend you sent the message to appear
It will appear in the lower left corner of the chat screen, above the text field where you type the messages to send. If the Bitmoji appears, it means that the recipient of the message is online and has viewed the chat.
- If the user in question does not use the Bitmoji, you will see a smiley appear. The latter will be replaced by a small blue dot after a few seconds.
- If the Bitmoji (or the blue indicator) does not appear, it means that the recipient of your message is not currently online or has not viewed your chat.
Method 2 of 2: Check the Snaps Sent
Step 4. Look for the read receipt indicator for the last snap you sent to this person
You should see an empty triangle and the word "Open" under the name of the user being examined, along with the time elapsed since reading the message in seconds, minutes or hours.
- If your snap recipient has seen it for less than a minute, it is most likely online.
- If, on the other hand, the status of the message is characterized by a colored triangle and the word "Delivered", it means that the recipient has not yet read it.
