If you want to escape from an uncomfortable situation by pretending to be feverish, you can do this by making your face warm, red and wet with sweat. You can also heat the thermometer to prove that you are sick. By adding a few other symptoms, for example by pretending to feel exhausted or have a stuffy nose, you will most likely be able to avoid school, training, or that boring dinner that makes you tremble at the very thought. Either way, it's usually better to just be honest about why you don't want to do something than risk getting in trouble.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Making the Face Hot, Red and Sweaty
Step 1. Warm your forehead with a bottle or boule filled with hot water
This is a well-known trick for pretending to have a fever. Fill a hot water bottle and hold it against your forehead for a few minutes to make it warm to the touch. You can also use a small hot water bottle or thermal compress. In any case, put a cloth or towel between the hot object and your forehead if the heat is too intense, so as not to risk burning yourself.
By the time you need to have a parent or someone else check your forehead temperature, it will be warm enough to convince them that you have a fever
Step 2. Eat something spicy to raise your body temperature naturally
Spicy foods, such as different varieties of chili peppers, can cause the body's temperature to rise. If you have something spicy in the pantry, eat some to achieve your goal in a completely natural way. However, don't overdo it, otherwise you risk feeling really bad!
Step 3. Exercise or stay under the covers for a while to look red
The simplest thing to do is to cover your head for a few minutes. Your own heat will make you red and raise the temperature of your forehead. Alternatively, you can do some physical exercise, such as hopping or jogging in place, to make your face redden. The purple complexion will lend greater credibility to the fever.
Step 4. Press a damp cloth to your skin or splash your face with water to make it look sweaty
Hold a washcloth under hot water for a few minutes. As soon as it is warm, place it on your face and leave it there for several minutes, then take it off. If you prefer, you can spray some water on your face with a spray bottle. Either way, make sure your skin doesn't look wet, you need to look sweaty, not wet.
Part 2 of 4: Raise the Temperature of the Thermometer
Step 1. Hold the thermometer under hot water if you want to hurry
If you are trying to make someone believe you have a fever, you may need to alter the reading on the thermometer. The quickest solution is to use hot water. Put the tip of the thermometer under the tap and wait for the temperature to exceed 38 ° C.
Do not let the temperature rise above 39 ° C, otherwise they could uncover you or rush you to the emergency room
Step 2. Shake the mercury thermometer to raise the temperature
Shaking it while holding it by the tip may be able to alter the reading in your favor. Proceed with caution, though, as shaking it too vigorously could cause it to reach an alarming temperature. If you are not careful, you will also risk shattering the glass.
- A mercury thermometer has a pointed metal end. The rest of the thermometer is made of glass and has numbers printed on it. Mercury moves inside the thermometer to show the temperature.
- Hold it by the metal tip when you shake it. Point the rest of the thermometer at the floor and shake it back and forth to raise the indicated temperature.
Step 3. If you have a digital thermometer, warm it by rubbing the tip between your fingers
Hold it as still as possible with one hand and grasp the tip between the thumb and forefinger of the other. Rub your two fingers together as quickly as you can to raise the temperature detected by the thermometer.
Usually digital thermometers are plastic devices with a metal tip, on one of the two sides there is a digital display for reading the measured temperature
Step 4. Eat or drink something warm before taking body temperature orally
If there will be someone watching you as you measure it, you can alter the result by raising the temperature of the mouth before starting. Eat or drink something hot, such as soup or a cup of tea, just before putting the thermometer in your mouth. But make sure the food or drink isn't hot enough to burn you! Hold some in your mouth for a few seconds before swallowing.
You may also want to store some warm liquid under your tongue to insert the tip of the thermometer into it when taking a measurement
Part 3 of 4: Simulating other Symptoms
Step 1. Pretend to be cold, not hot
People with a fever often feel cold, although touching them feels like they are very hot. If someone comes to check on how you are, be found under the covers or wearing warm clothes. State that you are cold and that you may have a fever. You can also simulate some slight thrills to make the staging even more convincing.
Step 2. Act like you are tired
If you want to pretend you have a fever, you can't move with vitality as if you were feeling fine. You have to drag your feet and proceed as if you have no energy. For example, hold your head with one hand while sitting to make the viewer believe they are powerless. You can also keep your eyes partially half closed, as if your lids are too heavy to lift them completely.
Step 3. Pretend you have no appetite
Another symptom of fever is a lack of appetite. If someone asks you if you want to eat something, don't ask them to bring you a burger and fries! Simply ask for water, fruit juice, or herbal tea. Save yourself hungry for when you get to be alone or have something simple, like toast or soup, made.
Step 4. Sniffle, sneeze, or poison to fake the flu
Its symptoms often go hand in hand with a fever, so you can add a few coughs or sneezes to your staging. Scatter paper tissues around the bed or room to make the circumstances more believable.
By eating spicy foods it is likely that your nose will start to run naturally
Step 5. Pretend to have stomach or head pain instead of the flu
If you are unsure whether you can simulate the symptoms of a flu, complain of pain in the head or stomach. Keep a hand on the part that is supposed to be affected by the disorder. If you said you have a bad stomach, go to the bathroom and stay there longer than normal.
For example, you might say "My stomach hurts a lot."
Step 6. Don't overdo it
The staging will need to look realistic, so try not to make it dramatic or far-fetched. Just add a symptom or two to the alleged fever, without acting like you're dying of a mysterious disease. If you try to overdo it, you risk that others will notice that you are pretending or that they will believe that you are very sick and insist on taking you to the doctor.
For example, avoid coughing while complaining about throwing up and writhing on the floor at the same time. That's a little too much
Part 4 of 4: Confess if You Get Caught
Step 1. Admit that you are pretending if someone catches you
If your parents realize that you have voluntarily warmed the thermometer or your forehead to make them think you have a fever, admit your faults. Even if you are tempted to deny what you have done, continuing to pretend after you are found out will only get you into even more trouble.
For example, you might say, "You're right, Mom, I was just pretending to be sick."
Step 2. Explain why you faked sick
Your parents will likely feel upset that you have decided to take such extreme steps to avoid taking part in a class, workout, or other engagement. Be honest in explaining the reasons you don't want to go, rather than resorting to other lies. Share your feelings without making excuses.
For example, you might say, "Today is my history test and I haven't studied. I decided to pretend to be ill so as not to get a bad grade."
Step 3. Apologize for lying
After you've emptied the sack, sincerely apologize for the deception. Recognize that you know you were wrong and promise to be more honest in the future. Understand that it may be difficult to trust you again after what happened.
Step 4. Accept the consequences
Your parents may punish you, take away your privileges, or otherwise punish you for lying. Instead of arguing or replying, accept the consequences for telling a lie and avoid doing it again. You can work hard to regain their trust by being honest, responsible, and helpful.
Advice
- If you want, wear too much clothing while you sleep. Set your alarm 10 minutes early to have time to take them off, then call your parents to tell them you feel strangely hot and have stomach pain.
- Pretend to sleep a lot to support your staging and stay under the covers in warm clothes.
- If you want to use the hot water method, use the bathroom sink and flush the toilet before turning on the tap to avoid arousing suspicion.
- Don't say you threw up if you didn't make fake vomit. Your parents may ask you to check to see why you are sick. There are many techniques online, make the fake vomit match what you ate.
- Pretending to have a fever could lead to trouble and the person you lied to could lose faith in you. It is often easier to do your homework instead of pretending to be sick.
Warnings
- Don't put an onion in your armpit to raise your body temperature. This method doesn't work, the only result you can get is having a smelly armpit.
- Never take medicine to cure a disease you don't have, you could really get sick!
- Do not put the thermometer in the microwave. This does not increase the temperature and you will end up breaking both the thermometer and the oven.
- Think about whether it's really worth pretending to have a fever. If you pretend to be sick several times to skip school, your performance may be affected.
