Do you want to celebrate Beltane with your Wiccan friends and family? Read on to learn how to proceed.
Steps
Step 1. Find out more about the "Beltane" festival
It is a celebration of the unity of the Goddess and God, therefore it concerns topics such as sex, love, passion, fertility and romance.
Step 2. Remember the meaning of some elements, such as the bonfire and incense
Fire represents love and passion, so light some candles. Flowers contain pollen, the fertile substance of plants; many Wiccans therefore like to braid them with their hair, wear flower crowns and use them in recipes and decorations.
Step 3. Light a bonfire with the nine sacred woods
You must use rowan or sandalwood, apple, dogwood, poplar, juniper, cedar, pine, holly, oak or elderberry. Invite friends and play some music, roast some dried fruit on the fire or practice your favorite ritual.
Step 4. Burn incense made with these woods to get the scent of a bonfire in the open air, if you can't light a real fire
Some Wiccans take advantage of this holiday to relax and meditate.
Step 5. Eat oat or barley cakes, the typical sweets of the Celtic festival
Other delicacies include lavender lemonade, cinnamon buns, iced tea, rose-flavored dishes and everything that has aphrodisiac properties.
Step 6. Perform a rite for the unity of the Goddess and God
It can be a simple and symbolic ceremony or even a very theatrical one according to your preferences.
Step 7. Dance around the Maypole or do other Wiccan dances to get into the holiday spirit
Step 8. Remember that this holiday is considered the occasion when the space between the world of the living and that of the spirits is thinnest
