Just missing a sliced gherkin to complete your perfect sandwich? Alas, does the coveted gherkin seem trapped in a glass jar that you don't want to open? Don't panic, read the article and you will open it in no time.
Steps
Step 1. Heat the lid of the jar under running hot water for about a minute
With the help of a kitchen towel, gently unscrew it.
Step 2. Use a sharp knife, and very carefully, drill a hole in the lid of the jar in order to balance the internal pressure of the jar with the external one
You will be able to unscrew the cap without problems.
Step 3. Another way to balance the internal and external pressure is to use a knife (the metal handle of a spoon or fork also works very well) to pry between the lid and the glass of the jar
Once done you will be able to unscrew it without problems.
Step 4. Hit the edge of the lid with a metal spoon several times and in several places, then hit the bottom of the jar with the palm of your hand
The cap should now be unscrewed with minimal effort.
Step 5. If none of these methods have had the desired effect, don't give up, you can buy a special kitchen utensil designed to open any type of glass jar in specialized stores
Advice
Wear dishwashing gloves as you try to unscrew the jar lid, they give a noticeably better grip than with your bare hands
