Every day, when you come back to your room, you notice that some items have been stolen or messed up by your little brother. You want to catch him in the act, but you don't know how. You need a hidden camera.
Steps
Step 1. Get a cheap webcam of any kind
Step 2. Remove the outer casing, thus exposing the printed board on which the lens is mounted
This will make the camera considerably smaller.
Step 3. Get an old desk pencil sharpener
Remove the motor and wires, including the power supply. Make sure you have unplugged it from the electrical outlet!
Step 4. Secure the camera inside the sharpener using extra strong glue
Glue the outer edge of the camera lens to the hole in the sharpener where the pencils would go to be pointed. Be careful not to stain the lens with glue.
Step 5. Secure some fishing sinkers inside the pencil sharpener with tape or glue to prevent it from appearing lighter than usual
Step 6. Run the USB cable (the one used to connect the webcam to the computer) through the hole where the sharpener's power cable passed
Step 7. Place a "Out of Order" or "Fault" card on the sharpener
It must be clearly visible to prevent someone trying to use it by breaking the camera.
Step 8. Point the camera at the door
Advice
- If the camera has a microphone, make a small hole in the pencil sharpener under the “Out of order” card and glue it inside.
- If your camera has an LED light that lights up when it's turned on, be sure to turn it off.
- If you have a Macintosh, download the program called Macam from the web address https://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/. It is a great program that will allow you to record videos and take photos. Many webcams are not compatible with Macintosh.
