The kitchen is a place where many accidents can happen, but since we frequent it regularly, we often forget how dangerous it is. A necessary rule to establish is to respect the safety inside and to establish measures to prevent possible accidents. Review the following list of tips in an effort to avoid the risk of injury in this part of the home.
Steps
Step 1. Organize the kitchen so that everything you need at any given time is at hand when needed
For example, put gloves near the oven.
- Store knives and other sharp items in a safe place. If you have children in the house, a safe area must be set aside for dangerous kitchen utensils. Get in the habit of putting them away in a safe place. Never leave knives on the kitchen counter or within reach of children. It goes without saying that detergents and chemicals (such as dishwasher tablets and so on) should be kept out of the reach of children.
- Store towels and paper products away from the hob.
Step 2. Establish cooking rules for young children
Set some ground rules for when you cook to avoid accidents. You can tell your kids that they shouldn't come in when you are preparing food, or you can designate an area in the kitchen where they can stay. Follow the rules consistently and the children will listen to you.
Step 3. Keep the kitchen clean and tidy
This way you will avoid any injuries.
- Clean the stove and oven after use once they have cooled down. Residues left on fires or in the oven could ignite, especially oil and fat. Do not clean the stove while it is on or if it is still hot.
- Collect what falls on the floor. It could make you slip and fall.
Step 4. Keep surfaces clear of obstacles
This is especially important if you use the oven. It is best to have a free place for the hot pan when you need to take it out of the oven. Do not place a hot pan or pan on top of other items on a cluttered surface. They risk tipping over and spilling the contents.
Step 5. Turn the pan handles towards the inside of the hob when using the stove
This way the pots will not accidentally fall or be pulled down by children. It is advisable to cook on the back stove whenever possible.
Step 6. Do not pass hot pans filled with water or hot food over other people
Whether you're serving what you've cooked or taking a pot off the heat, be sure to do it away from other people.
Step 7. Never cook with a child in your arms or carrying them in the appropriate sling
He might grab a saucepan by the handle from the stove, touch a hot plate, or grab a knife. Don't underestimate keeping children out of the kitchen when preparing food.
Step 8. Get into the habit of looking around before opening the oven
This is a preventative measure that gives you the opportunity to check whether it is safe to open the oven, especially if you have children. Also, instruct your kids not to go near the oven when it's open. If you point out the danger, the children will take it seriously.
Step 9. When reheating food in the microwave, beware of hot spots
Always stir food or shake liquids to avoid burning your mouth with the hottest parts.
Step 10. Keep a fire extinguisher handy in case of a fire
Since many fires start in the kitchen, get a fire extinguisher. Make sure you read the instructions when you buy it. Don't wait for a kitchen fire to break out before you figure out how to use it.
