Online games are great fun, but if you don't have an internet connection, you won't be able to do much. This, however, is not a problem: just save your favorite games on your computer. So you can play whenever you like. All you need is a web browser like Firefox or Chrome. Follow this guide to learn how.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using Firefox
Step 1. Open the website that contains the Flash game
You will use the Firefox Page Info command to search for the.swf file, which is the format of Flash games. Make sure the entire game is loaded.
- This does not work with games in another format, such as Java or HTML.
- You will need to have Adobe Flash installed to save the file.
Step 2. Right-click the website background
Do not click on the game, but on the website background. From the menu, select View Page Information.
Step 3. Click the Media Files tab
This will show a list of images, sounds, videos and other multimedia files on the site. Click the Type column to arrange the list by type and scroll down until you see the Subject category.
Step 4. Download the game
Select the ".swf" file from the list. The name will usually match the game title and will contain the full URL of the game. Once selected, click Save As… Rename it as you wish and choose where you want to save it. Once saved, the download is complete.
Step 5. Open the game
Once you have saved the game, go to the location where you saved it. Right-click on the file and select Open With… You will be given a list of programs with which you can open the game. If Firefox is on this list, choose it. If Firefox is not in the list, click "Search for more programs" to go to Firefox.
- Firefox is usually installed in C: / Program Files / Mozilla Firefox / firefox.exe, although it may vary depending on your system configuration.
- You can install a standalone.swf reader program if you prefer to use a program other than Firefox.
Method 2 of 2: Using Google Chrome
Step 1. Open the website that contains the Flash game
You will use the "View Page Source" command to search for the.swf file, which is the format of Flash games. Make sure the whole game is loaded.
- This does not work with games in another format, such as Java or HTML.
- You will need to have Adobe Flash installed to save the file.
Step 2. Right-click the website background
Do not click on the game, but on the background of the site. From the menu select "View page source". This will open the website code in a new tab.
Step 3. Find the Flash file
The game will have a ".swf" extension. Use the Find function by pressing Ctrl + F and entering ".swf" in the search field. Look for the entry that provides the full URL address of the.swf file. Copy the address by highlighting it and pressing Ctrl + C.
Step 4. Open URL in new tab
Copy the address into the address bar and press Enter. All of this should load the Flash game on a white background. Test the game to make sure it loads correctly.
Step 5. Save the page
Click the Customize button in the upper right corner of Chrome. These are the three horizontal bars. From the menu select "Save page as …". Rename the file as you wish and determine where you want to download it. Click Save to save the file to your computer.
Step 6. Start playing
To access the game you will need to assign a program to open it, if you haven't already. Right-click on the downloaded file and select Open With… If Chrome is in the list, select it and the game will open. If Chrome is not in the list, click the Browse button and go to the Chrome installation.
