How to Become Popular in Fifth Grade

You might think it's nearly impossible to become popular in fifth grade. However, it is the perfect year to get noticed, since secondary school awaits you afterwards. You can use this year to improve your image, become more sociable and get involved in school and local activities. Being popular doesn't mean playing rude goose with anyone you come across. It means being appreciated, respected and generally having a lot of fun. How to get there? Go to step one to get started.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Get Noticed

Step 1. Show everyone how much fun you have

If you want to be noticed, you can't be the little girl who mingles with the wallpaper at school dances or the one who never talks in class. People need to be impressed by your positive energy, your laugh and your upbeat nature. You have to have fun, both at recess with friends and during the history lesson in the classroom. You don't have to pretend, you have to learn to be the kind of person who can find a little happiness in any situation.

• Of course it doesn't mean you have to start making jokes during your science test. You must try to be optimistic, make sure that people are close to you for the positive energy you emanate. If you show that you are a whiny, pessimistic girl, no one will want to befriend you.
• You don't have to pretend you're happy if you aren't. You have to make an effort to think positively by eliminating any negative feelings and giving your best. Everyone happens to have bad days, you don't have to smile if you feel sad, just try to live more beautiful days than bad.

Step 2. Stand out

You'll never get famous if you're only known as "the girl who spilled coke on her" (hey, it happens to everyone), but people will notice you more often if you start getting known as the girl with the cute shoes, the laugh unique, the one who weaves bracelets at recreation, or the one who manages to talk to everyone. You don't have to dye your hair pink or have some henna drawn on your skin to get noticed, whatever strategy you decide to implement must be subtle and shouldn't attract too much attention.

People probably know you because they see you walking your dog on weekends. You can use any positive sign that allows you to stand out from the crowd

Step 3. Become the best in a field of your choice

People will understand who you are and will respect you more if you become famous thanks to your talents, such as being the best soccer player of your year, speaking another language or having a beautiful voice. You don't have to show off or try to be the best in everything you do. Indeed, it is better to be very good in only one field, it allows you to stand out more. Choose an activity you like, and try to improve until you master it well.

• Being the best will increase your confidence, because you will feel you have a lot to offer.
• You will meet a lot of people and become more popular if you strive to be the best in a group activity, such as football or acting.

Step 4. Improve your confidence

It is not always easy, in fifth grade many things are still a bit confusing, but you can make an effort and start being proud of the person you are and who you are becoming. You can do this by dating people who make you feel good, improving your grades, and talking about the things you love to others. Security is noticeable (and makes you notice) from a kilometer away.

It is not always possible to feel self-confidence, but if you can pretend you are already halfway there. You don't have to look like a doll or a celebrity, you just have to show that you are worth enough to care about your look. Here are some small tips:

• Wash your hair every day or every other day, depending on your cut.
• Brush your teeth every morning.
• Take a shower every day.
• Brush your hair before school.

Step 7. Wear clothes that make you feel good

There is no need to wear the latest arrivals or the stuff that the jocks put on to feel popular. You may end up wearing something that doesn't fit you at all. You can shop at Original Marines, Oviesse, Benetton or Stradivari, if you like them, but only if you think it is an appropriate choice. The most important thing is that your clothes are always clean, perfectly sized and that they make you feel good.

• You can combine some very nice accessories with your clothes, like necklaces or hats, but don't overdo it.

  

Part 2 of 3: Be Sociable

Step 1. Smile at people

Do you think smiling makes you look clumsy and desperate? It is not so. Everyone likes people who smile, a smile can make you feel better and can make the day for others better. Get in the habit of smiling at people when you pass in the corridors, at the bus stop and even in the classroom. When people see a smile they let their guard down, you will be able to get them to come over and talk to you.

• You don't have to smile maniacally. Don't follow people just to smile at them, do it when you catch someone's eye by accident.
• Those who smile a lot are considered very friendly, if you can, people will be more inclined to ask you questions or ask you to play.

Step 2. Learn to laugh at yourself

If you trip and get your clothes dirty at school, or do something else embarrassing, just say "oops" and have a laugh. Don't take it as if it's something serious, laugh it off with friends. If you accidentally make an embarrassing comment in class, or make a nonsense joke, the question becomes heavy only if you make it so. People will respect you more if you can laugh at it and show that you don't take yourself too seriously, and they'll be much happier to hang out with you.

Step 3. Be friendly to everyone

Don't just be nice to "cool" kids, ignoring everyone else. Get into the habit of being friendly and nice to everyone, except those who have done you a bad wrong. Don't listen to what other people tell you and decide for yourself if a person is deeply likeable or “weird”, just because someone says so. Appreciate other people, smile at them, ask them how their day went and always remember that you can learn from each of them. If people start to think of you as nice and friendly, you will become very popular.

• You have every right not to be friendly with those who treat you badly. You don't have to overdo it with goodness, otherwise people will take advantage of you.
• Think of it this way: you're only in fifth grade. Contrary to popular belief, the group of "popular kids" can change from elementary to middle and high school. If you can be nice to everyone, you can be sure that you are not excluding anyone, not even those who will become popular in the future.

Step 4. Always be positive

It's impossible to never complain, but you should strive to be a source of optimism rather than negative energy. Talk more about the things you love, give compliments, discuss fun things that are about to happen to you, like a summer vacation or a movie you've been waiting for a long time. Get in the habit of keeping the conversations you make with people positive. If they think you're a pessimistic girl who always complains about everything, they'll avoid dating you.

People will be pushed to get closer and will want to spend time with you if they think you are optimistic. On the other hand, if you complain constantly, they may walk away

Step 5. Don't be a fake person

Unfortunately, even in the fifth grade there are such people. They smile at people they hate, gossip constantly, or simply say things they don't believe in just to get attention. This type of behavior can improve your popularity in the moment, but it's best not to overdo it and commit to being yourself. Let people know you for who you are, and don't pretend passions you don't have. It is easy to unmask a false person, be careful.

Even if you think that really popular people are stabbing each other in the back and gossiping all the time, the truth is that they are so confident that they don't need to resort to these tricks. Make sure you resist temptation and remain faithful to your friends. If someone starts gossiping in front of you, try to change the topic of conversation or walk away

Step 6. Be open to new acquaintances

If you really want to be social, you can't just be nice to the only ten people you know. It wouldn't get you anywhere. Instead, try to talk to someone you don't know, it could be a boy from another class, another year, or a new student. You shouldn't have any problems introducing yourself and talking a little about yourself if you feel comfortable with yourself. This is the key to becoming popular: never be afraid to expose yourself.

• You don't have to be the most outgoing person in the world to become popular. Shy people often have the misfortune of being seen as rude or aloof. When someone approaches you, you should try to smile and be friendly to them if you are too shy to start a conversation.
• Don't be selective, don't think you need to avoid someone because of their reputation or status. Anyone deserves some of your time, as long as they are nice and interested.

Step 7. Be interested in the lives of others

If you really want to be popular you have to show people how much you care, you can't always just talk about yourself. You can also open up to a friend while talking about their passion, how their life is going, and what they plan to do in the future. When you talk to a person, avoid dominating the conversation, leave them some space to talk. Ask her how school is going, what happened to her pet or whatever else she likes. Show her you're interested in her instead of bragging all the time.

• It is important to open up to be sociable, but remember to let the other speak too.
• You don't have to ask so many questions right away. People don't have to feel like they're being interrogated. Just do a few, to make it clear that you care.

Part 3 of 3: Get involved

Step 1. Participate in school activities

It is much more difficult to participate in school life in fifth grade than in high school, but there are ways to do it. You can join a foreign language or animal lover club. You can even apply as a class representative. Many people aspire to become class head or representative to gain some notoriety, you can try it if you think it is right for you. You can also help your teachers after class time, find ways to get noticed at school.

If you participate in many activities, many people will get to know you and you will have the opportunity to get to know them in turn

Step 2. Actively participate in your community

At your age it is difficult to do something concrete, but you can always help the neighbors keep the garden clean, you can walk the dog, help out in the neighborhood park, and you can help your parents organize a candy sale for charity.. You don't have to be the best athlete in the world, just try to develop communication skills and look for the right role for you in order to be ready to play as a team. It's not mandatory, but playing a sport can help you become popular if you're good at it.

Don't feel embarrassed if you're not athletic enough to play a sport. Give it a try, before you decide, and try to figure out if it's right for you. If you don't like soccer, for example, try baseball. If you are not comfortable with sports, switch to another activity, such as painting or guitar, they could be more exciting

Step 4. Surround yourself with friends of all genders

You can't always make friends with the same kind of people, try to be friendly with shy, sporty and nerdy people. The more heterogeneous your group of friends is, the more you will be able to feel at ease in any social environment.

• Take heart and find friends from other years. Younger schoolmates will look at you with admiration, while junior high schoolmates will be able to give you some advice on how to survive the change of school.
• Don't limit yourself to school. Make friends with neighbors, other team members, or kids from other schools. It will allow you to feel comfortable with everyone.

• Do something different: change your hairstyle, buy new clothes, invent new fashions.
