How many times have you had the need to connect to the internet with your laptop or tablet but, in the absence of a wi-fi network or a wired network, was it impossible? Finally your problems are over, if you have an iPhone, in fact, in a few steps you can turn it into your personal wi-fi hotspot! Let's see how to do it.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Setting up a Hotspot on iPhone
Step 1. Enter the settings control panel
From the device home select the 'Settings' icon. It is the icon represented with gray gears. If you don't see the settings icon, with your finger, swipe the screen to the left to view the search page. Enter the word 'Settings' in the appropriate field and start the search. Select the settings icon that will appear in the results.
Step 2. Select the 'Personal Hotspot' menu item
If your mobile operator allows you to use this service, you will find the relative icon in the settings panel.
Note: if you are not yet enabled to use this service, go to the website of your telephone operator and choose the service that best suits your needs and your spending budget
Step 3. Enable the 'Personal Hotspot' feature
Move the switch from position 0 to position 1. You will now be able to share the connection of your iPhone.
Step 4. Set a password
In the appropriate field there will be the default password provided by your telephone operator. If you want to change it simply select the 'Wi-Fi password' item, enter your new password and press the 'Done' button.
Method 2 of 4: Connect another mobile device to your iPhone via wi-fi
Step 1. To connect an iPad to your hotspot, select the settings icon from the home and access the control panel
Step 2. From the menu on the left select the item 'Wi-Fi' to access the related settings
Step 3. Locate your iPhone network
On the right of the screen you can see the list of available wi-fi networks, select the one related to your iPhone.
Step 4. Enter the connection password
A pop-up will appear in which you will need to enter the password set when setting up the Hotspot on your iPhone. At the end of the insertion select the button 'Connect'.
Step 5. Verify that you are connected
If you have successfully connected to your iPhone you will see an icon (with two links of a chain) appear in the upper left corner, where you normally find the wi-fi connection icon.
Method 3 of 4: Connect a laptop via wi-fi
Step 1. Access your computer's network settings
If you are using a Mac, access system preferences from the Apple menu. In the case of a laptop with a Windows operating system, right-click on the icon of the wi-fi connection manager, located in the system tray, next to the system clock. From the contextual menu that appeared, select 'View available wireless networks'
Step 2. In the list of available wi-fi networks, select the one related to your iPhone
When prompted, enter the password to connect
Method 4 of 4: Connection notification
Step 1. Check the connection status
The bar at the top of your iPhone screen, which is normally black, should have turned blue and should indicate the number of devices connected to your hotspot.
Note: there is no way to know which devices are connected, if you notice that the number of connections is different than expected turn off your hotspot immediately, change the password and reactivate it (don't forget to share the new password with the people who you really want them to access your network)
Advice
- To make the most of the 'Personal Hotspot' function, find out which telephone operator offers you the best services. In some cases it may be more convenient to use this function to connect a second device (such as an iPad) to the internet through tethering via wi-fi.
- Many telephone operators offer a monthly renewable rate plan, not forcing you to subscribe for a minimum duration of 2 years.
