Ever since Kylie Jenner became the queen of Snapchat and Instagram, there's nothing but talk about her plump lips, coveted by many girls. Although he revealed that he is giving himself injections, there are cheaper and less painful ways to achieve the same result at home. Read on to find out how to plump or make up them to make them optically bigger.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Draw the Outline of the Lips Overflowing
Step 1. Hide the lip contour using a concealer
To achieve a natural and convincing result, it is important that the natural contour of the lips is not visible. Grab your favorite concealer and start blending it around the perimeter. You don't have to use a lot, just enough to make the outline less visible.
Step 2. To fix the concealer, apply powder foundation with your fingers
It is important to use it before applying lip products, so that you get a clean and precise result. At this point you will have covered the outline well.
Step 3. Outline the lips with a pencil out of the edge
It is the most important step, but also the one that requires the most practice, to achieve the desired result. Outlining the lips out of the edge involves creating a new outline, so that they look more plump than they really are. Here are some tips for doing this:
- Many make-up gurus decide to go out the edge on the Cupid's bow (i.e. the bow that is in the center of the upper lip) and in the center of the lower lip. To do this, follow the natural shape of Cupid's bow, but draw a line above the actual outline. Repeat on the middle part of the lower lip. Then, outline the lips at the corners of the mouth without overflowing. Leaving the edge only in the center, the effect will be a little more natural.
- For a more decisive result, go out from the edge around the entire perimeter of the lips, from the Cupid's bow to the outer corners, both above and below.
Step 4. Apply a suitable lipstick
To perfectly recreate Kylie's look, use a matte lipstick. Make sure it is the same color as the pencil, so that there is no gap between the two products. Color the lips carefully within the lines you drew.
Step 5. Kylie often colors her lips entirely with the pencil herself
You can do it too, and then go over it with lipstick. This trick promotes color retention throughout the day, preventing it from fading or forming patches.
Method 2 of 3: Contouring the Lips
Step 1. Outline the lips
If stepping out of the edges isn't your thing, don't worry - this technique will simply require you to outline the lip contour. Choose a pencil of the same color as the lipstick you intend to use. Start from the center and work your way to the outer corner of the upper and lower lips.
If you want to make your lips fuller, you can go out the edge a little, but that's not necessary
Step 2. Once you have finished outlining your lips, check that you have obtained a clean and homogeneous result
At this point, color them inside with the same pencil in order to create a smooth and even base for contouring.
Step 3. Outline Cupid's bow and outer corners with a darker pencil
Just like the bronzer allows you to define the cheekbones and the jaw, a dark pencil helps you to give dimension to the lips. The dark line will contribute to the creation of shadows, with the illusion that the lips are more plump.
Outline Cupid's bow with the dark pencil, then apply it to the outer corner of the upper and lower lip
Step 4. With the dark pencil, draw vertical lines along the lower lip to accentuate the natural curves and add dimension to the lips
Draw a line in the center of the lower lip, aligning it in the center of Cupid's bow. At this point, draw two more lines on each outer corner of the lower lip.
Step 5. Blend the two pencils by applying a lip balm with your fingers
Tap it carefully on the lines to soften them. Put it on your upper lip as well.
Step 6. Blot your lips with a tissue to remove excess product and create a perfectly matte result
Make sure the final effect is smooth and natural. At this point you are ready. With a simple optical illusion you have got beautiful and plump lips!
Method 3 of 3: Plump the Lips
Step 1. Buy a lip plumper tool
If you want to make them more meaty without breaking the bank, you can buy a small and inexpensive device that temporarily enlarges them. While each product has specific instructions, by and large they all work by sucking. Just stick a small plastic device (the dimensions do not exceed those of a shot) to the lips and exercise a slight suction. Once removed, they will appear slightly swollen, allowing you to get more volume.
- The effect is temporary, but these devices come in handy just before applying the pencil or lipstick.
- Fullips is the original patented tool, available online. There are other devices that allow you to achieve the same effect. You can find them in beauty shops and on the internet.
Step 2. Try a lip product that contains plumping ingredients
Long before Kylie Jenner came on the market there were already lip glosses and volumizing serums. Have a look on the internet or in perfumery to learn about the various products available. Go for peptide-based ones, which help make lips visibly plumper and fuller.
Some of these products cause itching during the procedure - don't be alarmed
Step 3. Exfoliate your lips
It is not a miracle method to have them more meaty. However, this is a neglected (yet critical) procedure for taking care of the lips. Gently exfoliate with a toothbrush every day. It is preferable to do this before putting on makeup. The scrub removes dead cells and revives the lips, effectively making them look plumper.
