Sometimes, it happens that you feel a sudden itchy scalp. Maybe you changed your shampoo, conditioner, or maybe you didn't do anything, yet your head just started to itch. There are several causes that can trigger itchiness, such as dry skin or residue from hair products, but it is easy to counter and with this guide you will learn how to do it.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Hair Care
Step 1. Use products other than those you usually use
Change your shampoo and conditioner for at least two weeks to get rid of the accumulated residue with the usual products.
If you're broke or don't want to buy another shampoo, you could make a puree made from olive oil, mayonnaise, and broccoli. Mix these ingredients together and then spread the mixture on your scalp. In reality, olive oil is useful for reducing fatness, mayonnaise moisturizes and eliminates lice, giving the hair shine and shine, while broccoli cleans thoroughly. You can also add an egg to feed them more
Step 2. Dry your hair thoroughly every morning
By leaving them moist, the scalp will be prone to debris buildup and dryness caused by water evaporation, which will trigger the itchiness. You may even get mold in your hair! It would be preferable to avoid such a scenario.
Step 3. Take care of your hair
You have to brush or comb them at least two / three times a day to distribute the sebum evenly, trying to pay attention to the scalp! Do it gently!
Step 4. Check the products you use
Eliminate anything that contains alcohol, because it is a substance that causes dryness and, consequently, itching attacks.
Step 5. Use a good quality conditioner
It serves to give hair shine, but also softness and thickness, revitalizing and nourishing it. If you don't have a good conditioner on hand, you can use yogurt - it has moisturizing properties and contains antioxidants that nourish and reduce redness.
Method 2 of 2: Body Care
Step 1. Check for sunburn
In summer, especially in the first days of heat, it often happens to burn the scalp. In that case, when the skin begins to heal, itchiness sets in just as if it were a normal sunburn. The use of an aloe vera shampoo or conditioner is recommended to relieve discomfort.
Step 2. Check for head lice
Itching results from a reaction of the skin to the saliva of the lice. Yes, it's unpleasant and disgusting, but it's easy to get rid of them. Ask someone to check your head for lice or eggs, called nits, which are attached to the root of your hair.
- Use an anti-lice shampoo and wash all the laundry and clothing you have used with boiling water, then they should dry in the heat for at least 20 minutes.
- Fabrics that cannot be machine washed must be dry cleaned (including soft toys).
- Vacuum carpets and cushioned surfaces.
- Soak all the tools you use for hair care (combs, brushes, ribbons, clips, etc.) in alcohol or anti-lice shampoo for at least an hour.
Step 3. Relax
Stress plays tricks on the body in general and can also affect the health of the scalp. If the itch spreads to the neck and face (in the absence of a rash or other signs that could indicate an infection), the cause is probably due to a life that is too stressful.
Step 4. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day
Maybe you are dehydrated and your scalp also needs water. Consult your doctor, who will be able to tell you the right amount of water you should drink based on your weight and age.
Step 5. You could take vitamin E supplements
Contains essential oils that are good for the skin and promote hydration.
Step 6. Consult your doctor
If the itching does not seem to decrease, it could be the symptom of a more serious pathology: herpes zoster (shingles), fungal infections such as Tinea Amiantacea or Lichen Planus, dermatitis, psoriasis, ringworm and other problems.
Advice
- Always keep your nails clean as you may scratch your scalp while you sleep!
- As tempting as it may be, you definitely don't have to scratch! You would make the situation worse.
- If you want to relieve discomfort, use a clean, soft-bristled brush to promote blood circulation and even distribution of sebum.
Warnings
- Do not repeatedly brush your hair for too long or it will become greasy.
- Mites can also be found on the earlobes. The same treatment must be applied to that area as well.
- Wash your sheets and pillows to prevent mites from spreading easily. They are annoying pests! You could also use an organic spray on the mattress.
- Mites that look like specks of dust can cause itching, so vacuum carpets, change pillow cases often, and when shampooing, pre-wash with a little vinegar or beer, rinsing thoroughly with clean water.
