There can be a number of reasons why you don't want to wash your hair in the shower - maybe you're in a hurry or you've just got a new tattoo or you've applied extensions. Whatever the reason, washing your hair in a sink can be a quick and easy alternative.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Preparations
Step 1. Choose the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type
Different characteristics also have different requirements for cleaning products.
- If you have wavy or curly hair, you need a moisturizing conditioner / shampoo;
- If they are straight, you need a volumizing product to minimize the flat look;
- If they are frizzy, tangled or damaged, you need a product that can repair damage, untangle knots and soften the hair.
Step 2. Gather what you need
You need to get the shampoo, conditioner, towel, comb and cup; of course, you need a sink and possibly a ladder stool. It's always a good idea to get a few more towels.
Step 3. Roll up your sleeves
Prepare them by rolling them up or possibly removing the shirt; also put a towel around your neck.
Step 4. Choose the best sink
It must be large enough for you to comfortably hold your head under the tap; it must also be at a good height to lean over it (if it is at navel height, it's perfect); if it is also equipped with a hand shower, it is a further advantage!
- Use a stool if the sink is too high.
- The kitchen sink is usually the largest and very often is equipped with a shower; for this reason, it is perhaps the most suitable for your purpose.
Step 5. Open the faucet
Run the water until it gets hot; it must reach a pleasant temperature that makes you feel comfortable, without burning yourself.
Part 2 of 3: Using the Shampoo
Step 1. Wet the back of the canopy
Lean over the sink and move your hair forward to expose the nape of your neck; keep your head under the tap as much as possible. Use the hand shower and / or a cup to pour more water on your head and completely wet your hair; at this stage it is best to use hot water.
Step 2. Wet the sides of the head
Rotate your face left and right, placing each side under the tap; use the shower and / or the cup to wet these areas until the entire hair is completely saturated with water.
Step 3. Take care of the front side
Cupped your hands under running water and spray it on your hair right above your forehead. At this point, all of the hair should be completely soaked.
Step 4. Apply the shampoo
Depending on the length of your hair, put a dime-sized amount on your palm; then rub both hands to form the lather and, starting from the front (above the forehead), apply the product to the roots of the hair.
Step 5. Massage the shampoo all over your scalp
Focus especially on the part of the hair close to the skin, since it is the area that tends to be the most greasy and that needs cleaning the most; afterwards, you can rub the shampoo on the tips.
Step 6. Rinse
Following the same method you used to wet your hair, start rinsing to get rid of all the shampoo, making sure it doesn't get into your eyes.
- Wet the nape area, the side ones and then the forehead;
- Keep rinsing until the water runs clear without foam.
Part 3 of 3: Apply the conditioner
Step 1. Apply conditioner
Depending on the length of your hair, pour a dime-sized amount into your palm; rub your hands together to distribute the product and spread it on the hair starting from behind the ears, then moving downwards. This is very important: don't put it directly on the scalp!
Step 2. Comb the hair with your fingers
Once you have applied the product correctly from the ears to the ends of the hair, you can run your hands to distribute what is left over their entire length, from roots to ends.
Step 3. Let it act
Wait one to five minutes for the conditioner to do its job and properly hydrate your hair.
Step 4. Rinse with cold water
Following the same method used previously, proceed now to rinse your hair to remove the conditioner.
- Wet the nape part, the sides and then the front area;
- Continue rinsing until the water runs clear;
- For this stage it is best to use fresh or cold water.
Step 5. Wipe dry with a cloth
Get a towel to wipe the moisture out of your hair. Proceed gently so as not to damage the hair which is particularly sensitive when wet.
Step 6. Style them as usual
Start by untangling them with a wide-toothed comb, then go through your usual styling routine.
Advice
- You can use the same method to wash another person's hair. You can pull long hair close to the edge of the sink (as if you are at a hair salon) or, if the person is short, you can ask her to lie down on the kitchen counter.
- Make sure you scrub and rinse all the shampoo out of your hair. If you do a careless job, it eventually shows; dry shampoo residues form white flakes similar to dandruff.
- There is no need to keep a towel around your neck, but it makes the job a lot easier.
Warnings
- Don't stay bent forward for too long.
- Be careful not to hit your head with the tap or shower.
- If you start feeling stiff in your neck, stop for a minute.
- Proceed with caution so as not to get the shampoo in your eyes; use one that doesn't make tears or keep your eyes closed.
