Whist is a card game that emerged in the eighteenth century. There are many variations and different rules of this game, betting and assigning partners. The basic game is played with 2 teams of 2 players each. There are no bets in the base game and the players choose who deals the cards themselves. Follow these tips for playing whist.
Steps
Step 1. Remove the jokers from the deck
Step 2. Place the players
Have them sit in a circle. Teams of 2 players each must sit facing each other.
Step 3. Choose who deals the cards
Step 4. Shuffle the cards
Have the player on the left of the dealer shuffle the cards.
Step 5. Cut the deck
Have the player to the right of the dealer cut the deck.
Step 6. Deal the cards
- Deal the cards to each player. Whoever deals the cards must give them to each player one at a time, clockwise. The cards must be face down.
- Deal out all the cards. Each player has 13 cards. The last card goes to whoever deals the cards.
- Turn the last card up. Whoever deals the cards must turn the last card up and show it to everyone. The suit of the card turned up will be the trump.
Step 7. Play the hand

The player to the left of the dealer's draws a card. The cards must be revealed from now on.

Everyone has to throw a card of the same suit on the table. Proceed clockwise until everyone has drawn a card.

Determine who played the highest card. The person with the highest card of the same suit wins the hand. If a player does not have a card of the same suit, they can roll a different one. If some players play trump, the card with the highest trump wins.

Step 8. Determine who won the team
- Count the number of hands won by each team. The team that has won the most hand wins.
- Subtract 6 from the total number of hands won by the winning team. The result equals the team's points. For example, if one team wins 9 hands and the other team 4, the winning team receives 3 points. The loser gets no points.
Step 9. End of the game
Continue until one of the two teams has reached 5 points..
