Banana cream is a delicious snack that can often be served as a healthy alternative to cakes and other desserts. You can prepare it instead of custard to garnish a cake, cookies or simply to eat it alone. Whatever use you intend to make of it, you will love these simple recipes.
Ingrediants
Portions: 6-8
Preparation time: 15 minutes
- 2 bananas
- 1 cup (200 g) of sugar
- 30 g of corn starch
- Half a teaspoon of salt
- 3 cups (700 ml of milk)
- 2 eggs
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
or
- 2 bananas
- 2 1/2 cups (350 ml) of milk
- 1 cup of whipped cream
- 2 sachets of vanilla pudding mix
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Make Banana Cream with Fresh Ingredients
Step 1. Mix sugar, cornstarch, salt and milk
Pour the following ingredients into a large saucepan:
- 1 cup (200 g) of sugar;
- 30 g of corn starch;
- Half a teaspoon of salt;
- 3 cups (700 ml) of milk.
- Note: You can use skim or semi-skim milk to reduce the calorie intake of this dessert.
Step 2. Cook the cream
Cook the ingredients you previously poured into the saucepan (sugar, cornstarch, salt and milk) over medium heat. While cooking, mix them with a whisk until the mixture begins to thicken and boil.
Step 3. Turn the heat down, but keep stirring
Lower the heat to minimum and continue mixing the ingredients for another 2 minutes. Then, remove the saucepan from the heat.
Step 4. Add the eggs
Add 2 eggs to the mixture. Beat the contents of the saucepan until fully incorporated.
You can beat the eggs first to make sure they mix completely with the other ingredients. This will also help you avoid those problems that tend to come up often when eggs are added to already hot ingredients (like accidentally getting scrambled)
Step 5. Bring the mixture to a boil
Return the saucepan to the heat and bring the contents to a boil. Once it has started to boil, continue to mix and cook the mixture for another 2 minutes.
Step 6. Cut the bananas
Take 2 medium sized ripe bananas and cut them into small pieces. The pieces can be any size you like, but the smaller they are, the easier you will be able to incorporate them when you add them to the cream.
Step 7. Add the bananas, butter and vanilla extract
Remove the pan from the heat and add 3 tablespoons of butter, 2 chopped bananas and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Beat the ingredients with a whisk.
Step 8. Store the cream in the fridge
Pour the mixture into a large bowl and cover it. Keep it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Method 2 of 2: Make Banana Cream with Pudding Mix
Step 1. Cut the bananas
Take 2 medium sized ripe bananas and cut them into small pieces. The pieces can be any size you like, but the smaller they are, the easier you will be able to incorporate them when you add them to the cream.
Step 2. Mix the milk and pudding mix
Pour 2 1/2 cups (700 ml) of milk into a large bowl. Slowly add 2 sachets of vanilla pudding mix, stirring as you pour in the powder.
Note: You can use low-fat, low-fat, low-fat pudding milk to reduce calorie intake
Step 3. Beat the mixture
Beat the cream for about 2 minutes or until you have eliminated all the lumps. The mixture should be very homogeneous when you finish beating it.
Step 4. Incorporate the whipped cream
Slowly add a cup of whipped cream to the cream. Be sure to keep stirring as you add it so that no lumps form.
Step 5. Add bananas
Add the bananas to the cream and mix well. Use the whisk to remove any lumps that may have formed in the cream.
Step 6. Keep it in the fridge
Once you are done, make sure you keep the cream in the fridge, otherwise the gelling agent in the preparation will not thicken. Let it rest in the fridge for at least an hour. Then, you can eat it alone or proceed with the preparation of a cake. You can also use it to garnish cookies.
