Whether you've never owned a pair of boots before, or you're here to find some tips on how to tie your boots in an original way, this article is right for you. The process of tying boots is similar to tying shoes, but their longer length gives you the opportunity to experiment a little more. This article will explain the basics and a couple of extra tips for tying your boots in the best way.
Steps
Step 1. Choose the boots to tie
You probably own a pair of high boots, but remember that the most important thing is to have the right kind of laces, no matter what type of boot you choose. Ask a shopkeeper for advice or read the instructions on the package to choose the right length of strings.
Method 1 of 2: Diagonal Lacing
Step 1. Start tying your boots
Starting at the bottom, insert the strings through the outer side of the buttonholes. Pull the strings vertically as you go to make sure they are even.
Step 2. Cross the first string diagonally across the flap and insert it into the second loop from the outside
Step 3. Continue to fasten making sure to always insert one side before the other, in order to keep the crossing of the strings uniform until you reach the top of the boot
Step 4. Once on top, tie the strings in a bow and insert the ends inside, or fix the ends and insert them inside, in order to obtain a neater look
Step 5. Do the same for the other boot, just make sure that the opposite string is on top, in order to obtain a symmetrical look
Method 2 of 2: Straight Lacing
Step 1. Start lacing in the same way as for diagonal lacing, but instead of crossing the strings over the tongue, pass them under the next buttonhole on the same side and insert them from the inside out into the third hole a starting from the bottom
Step 2. Pass the laces over the tongue and insert them from the inside to the outside, through the same starting hole
Step 3. Take the other lace starting from the lower hole and make it go up through the slot right above the first one
Insert the string from the inside out and pass it horizontally through the second hole on the opposite side.
Step 4. Insert the lace from the outside to the inside and pass it under once again, skipping the loop where the opposite lace will have to enter
Step 5. Continue lacing all the way to the top
You can also adjust the other boot following the same procedure.
Advice
- If you own a cat, lock it out of the room before you start tying or untying your boots. They often try to "help" in their own way by trying to catch the strings.
- If you choose to fasten the laces together, you will not be able to take off your boots without doing a lot of effort.
- Lace-up boots are difficult to put on or take off, so if you're in a hurry wake up a little earlier. This is especially true for ankle boots, as it can take up to 5 minutes to put them on (per boot).
- Due to the rigid construction of the laced boots, they may tighten at the heel. Remember that you can buy heel pads (choose a good brand) to prevent your foot from moving inside the boots.
- In case of straight lacing, the strings will come to the top from the same side. Tie a simple knot, hide them inside the boot and you will be ready to go out.
- Silver laces look great with black boots.
