Advice

  • Don't repeat the trick in front of people who belong to the same group; for example, predicting the number 1089 for the second time creates far less amazement!
  • The 1089 number trick works with most three-digit numbers, even if two are repeated. You can't practice it with those palindromes (for example 161 or 282); by asking the interlocutor to think of a number with three different digits, you can avoid this problem.
  • Don't perform the same trick in front of the same person! If you do, he may understand the math and intentionally ruin your next performance by making you "flop". This can be a really awkward situation, especially if you're in front of a large audience or party.
