This article offers a brief introduction on how to play Minecraft Pocket Edition, better known as Minecraft PE.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Starting a Game
Step 1. Purchase Minecraft PE on the App Store
Usually the price is around 7 €.
Step 2. Open the app
You will see the start menu. Press Play to start a game.
Step 3. Press "New" to create a new world
Just press the button to choose which map to play on.
- If you wish, give the world a name. This step isn't necessary, but giving each save a unique name allows you to better distinguish them.
- You can also enter a seed for the world. These codes allow you to create specific maps. It is not necessary to use them, because all game worlds offer the necessary resources to have fun games.
Step 4. Choose a game mode
Do you want to play in Survival or Creative mode?
- In Creative mode you have unlimited resources, you can destroy blocks instantly and you can do whatever you like without the risk of dying.
- In Survival mode, you have limited resources and your character can die, be attacked by monsters, take falling damage and more. All the items you want to use you will have to collect them with your tools and you can lose them due to the explosions of the creepers.
Step 5. Press "Generate World"
Part 2 of 4: Game Mechanics
Step 1. Use the directional arrows to move
The on-screen keypad has five buttons: up, down, left, right, and a circle in the center.
- To advance, press the up arrow.
-
To walk left, press the left arrow.
-
To move right, press the right arrow.
-
To move back, press the down arrow.
-

Step 3. To break blocks, press and hold on the block to break
In Creative mode, the operation is immediate. In that Survival, however, you need more time and the tools necessary to collect the various types of blocks
Step 4. To put a block in your inventory, press the "button
.. at the bottom of the screen.
Step 5. Press the X to exit the menu
Step 6. Place the blocks by pressing on a space in the game world
That box should be highlighted.
Part 3 of 4: Playing in Creative Mode
Step 1. Learn the tricks
Creative mode is very different from Survival mode, because it allows you to do actions that would otherwise be impossible.
- In Creative mode you can fly. Double press the center circle to do this.
- You have unlimited access to all of the game's resources, so you can build whatever you like. Have you always wanted a diamond block house? The only limit is your imagination.
- In Creative mode, pressing on a block will break it instantly. You can even break the mother rock and fall into the void without dying.
Step 2. Build what you want
This mode is called "Creative" for a reason; leaves free space for the imagination.
You don't have to worry about the risk of monsters destroying your buildings. In Creative mode, enemies that appear on the map will never try to attack you, regardless of the time of day
Part 4 of 4: Playing in Survival Mode
Step 1. Collect the wood
You can find it from the very first minutes of the game, by cutting down trees. Break the blocks and make sure you put them in your inventory.
Step 2. Open the inventory
In the upper left corner, you will see the "Create" button. Press it.
Step 3. Scroll until you find "Wooden Planks"
Press the button and create the planks, necessary as the basis of many Minecraft objects.
Step 4. Find the "Creation Table"
In Minecraft PE, you need four wooden planks to build it. These tools are used to create most of the materials. Create one and place it somewhere.
Step 5. Get your food
Nutrition is essential for recovering health. You can make bread with wheat, cook a mushroom stew or hunt animals and cook their meat in the furnace.
- Some monsters drop some items when you defeat them. For example, sheep give blocks of wool, but no meat. If you hunt a cow, you will get beef and leather, which you can use in the future.
- Make sure you don't kill all the animals you come across. You can later have them reproduced.
Step 6. Make sure you have shelter and tools
To survive your first night, you need shelter. You don't need a huge fortress, four walls are enough to keep monsters away.
- To craft the tools you need the crafting table (with some exceptions, such as torches). For example, it is not possible to create picks, swords and shovels directly from the inventory. For this reason, it's a good idea to bring a spare crafting table with you, to make a second pickaxe in case the first one breaks while you're digging.
- Wood and gold are the most fragile materials for tools. The wooden sword is the one that deals the least damage and the wooden pickaxe allows you to collect only stone and coal. The best strategy is to use a wooden pickaxe to get the crushed stone, with which to build swords, furnaces and picks capable of digging iron.
Step 7. Fight monsters effectively
Some enemies are harder to defeat than others, and the right strategy can help you a lot against the more challenging ones.
- Against monsters that attack from a distance, such as skeletons, it is best to use a bow and arrow. If you don't have these tools at your disposal, the sword will do as well, but you will have to move constantly to avoid dying.
- Monsters such as spiders and zombies can be easily defeated with a sword. The former will jump towards you, so be prepared to face them early. The second ones instead walk slowly in your direction, so it's pretty easy to hit them.
- Remember that spiders can climb walls. If your shelter didn't have a roof, they could reach you from above.
Advice
- In Survival mode it is important to know the quality of the materials you are using. There are five raw materials with which to make tools: wood, stone, iron, gold and diamond. It is not a good idea to use gold to make armor or tools; it is extremely fragile, almost like wood!
- Make sure you don't jump from a great height if you're not sure you're going to fall into the water. If you hit the ground, you will die and may not be able to get back to that spot before your items disappear.
- In Creative mode, tools are not needed to break blocks; just use your hands.
Warnings
- Don't look the Endermen in the eye! They become hostile when you stare at them and have a special ability, teleportation, which makes them very difficult to kill.
- Watch out for hostile monsters that appear at night. Spiders, creepers, zombies and skeletons will attack you after the sun goes down. Fortunately, zombies and skeletons will burn in daylight, while spiders will become neutral and only react to your attacks; however, the creepers will continue to chase you and blow themselves up, regardless of the time of day.
