SkyBlock is a well-known version of Minecraft's survival mode that has gained popularity since launch. The game consists of the difficult task of surviving on a platform in the sky, with very few resources available. Thanks to this variant, players are able to gain more experience and skills in the art of surviving in Minecraft. You too can immerse yourself in the same experience by following the steps in this guide.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Install and Upload a Skyblock Map (Single Player)
Step 1. Search for a Skyblock map
Visit https://www.google.com and type skyblock map in the search bar. The results will include web pages with the latest version of the Skyblock map, such as:
- https://www.minecraftmaps.com/skyblock-maps
Step 2. Download a Skyblock map
When you find one you want to play, click the download button to download a zip archive containing the map files.
Step 3. Show hidden files and folders (Windows only)
On computers running Windows, you may need to show hidden files and folders to open the Minecraft save folder.
Step 4. Extract the map file to the Minecraft saves folder
Using an archive management application, such as Winzip, WinRAR or 7-Zip, transfer the contents of the compressed file to the given path. The game saves folder is located in one of the locations listed below, depending on the operating system and version of Minecraft you have installed (the "" folder will have the name of the Windows, MacOS or Linux user).
-
Java Edition on Windows 10:
C: / Users / \ AppData / Roaming \.minecraft / saves
-
Windows 10 (Bedrock) Edition:
C: / Users / \ AppData / Local / Packages / Microsoft. MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe / LocalState / games / com.mojang / minecraftWorlds
-
Java Edition on Mac:
Users // library / application support / minecraft / saves
-
Java Edition on Linux:
/ home / /.minecraft / saves /
Step 5. Launch Minecraft
Click on the game launcher (Java Edition) or Minecraft (Windows 10 Edition) icon to open the program. If it's not on your desktop, click the icon in the Windows Start menu or Mac Applications folder.
Step 6. Click Play
You'll see a green button at the bottom of the Minecraft launcher or a large gray button on the Windows 10 Edition title screen.
Step 7. Click Single Player (Java Edition only)
In the Minecraft edition that uses Java, click on Single player to view the list of available single player maps.
Step 8. Click on the Skyblock map
Once you have copied it to your saves folder, it will appear in the Minecraft worlds list. Click on it to load it.
Some maps created in the Java Edition will not work correctly on the Windows 10 (Bedrock) Edition and vice versa
Step 9. Click Play Selected World (Java Edition only)
If you are using the Java version of the game, click on the button indicated.
Method 2 of 3: Connect to a Skyblock Server (Multiplayer)
Step 1. Search for a Minecraft Skyblock server
Visit https://www.google.com and search for Minecraft Skyblock server. If you're playing the Windows 10 (Bedrock) edition, please include one of those terms in your search. A list of web pages containing Skyblock servers will appear, including:
- https://minecraft-server-list.com/sort/Skyblock/ (Java Edition)
- https://topminecraftservers.org/type/Skyblock (Java Edition)
- https://minecraftservers.org/type/skyblock (Java Edition)
- https://minecraftpocket-servers.com/tag/skyblock/ (Bedrock Edition)
Step 2. Click Copy under the server you want to add
Many websites that list servers have a "Copy" button under each entry in the list. By clicking it, you save the server address.
For Windows 10 Edition, you will need to copy the server address, click on the banner and write the port number
Step 3. Launch Minecraft
Click on the game launcher (Java Edition) or Minecraft (Windows 10 Edition) icon to open the program. If it's not on your desktop, click the icon in the Windows Start menu or Mac Applications folder.
Step 4. Click Play
You'll see a green button at the bottom of the Minecraft launcher or a large gray button on the Windows 10 Edition title screen.
Step 5. Click on Multiplayer or up Server.
If you are playing Minecraft Java Edition, click on Multiplayer. If you are using Windows 10 Edition instead, click on Server.
Step 6. Click Add Server
On the Minecraft Java Edition, you will find this button in the lower right corner of the multiplayer menu. On the Windows 10 Edition of the game, it's above the server list.
Step 7. Add server information
Type the server name in the "Server Name" field. Paste the address you copied into the "Server Address" field. On Windows 10 Edition, you will also need to enter the port number in the "Port" field.
Step 8. Click Save or up Done.
This will save the server in the list. If you are playing the Windows 10 Edition, click on Save. If you are using the Java Edition instead, click on Done.
Step 9. Click on the Minecraft server you just added
In this way, you upload a game to the server. Your character will most likely spawn in a common space that contains various games, instructions, and other users.
Step 10. Locate the Skyblock match
Each server is organized differently. Some also offer other game modes besides Skyblock, but you look for the latter. You may notice a villager with "Skyblock", a portal with the name of the game, or instructions on how to get started written on a wall.
Step 11. Follow the instructions
Start a new Skyblock game according to the on-screen prompts. Each server is configured differently. Usually, there is a command terminal that you can use to create a new Skyblock island or to join an existing one. Press T to open the terminal. Once you have typed the command indicated in the instructions, you will start the Skyblock game.
Method 3 of 3: Play Skyblock
Step 1. Use "stealth" mode to avoid falling off the edge
Hold down the Shift key as you move, so you can proceed slowly.
Step 2. Collect the saplings from the first tree
Without any sapling, you won't have any trees left, so if you don't get at least one from the first plant, you'll have to start over. Break the leaves to get them.
Step 3. Collect wood from the first tree
Once you have obtained some saplings from the leaves, break the tree with your hands.
Step 4. Plant the sapling on the block of land farthest from the corner where your character spawns
This way, you will keep it away from the lava and avoid losing it (along with the saplings and apples) in the event of a fire.
You can improve the chances of recovering the saplings by using a few blocks of earth from the top layer of the island to expand it around the tree
Step 5. Collect wood and saplings every time the tree grows
When the plant becomes an adult, take the saplings from the leaves, then the wood. Replant any saplings you find.
Step 6. Create a workbench
When you have enough wood, build this item.
Be careful: keep two blocks of wood (don't turn them into planks) to make your first charcoal later on
Step 7. Build a wooden pickaxe
Use some of the material you got to make some planks and sticks. At that point, make the wooden pickaxe thanks to the workbench.
Step 8. Create a 2X2 pool of water
You can make it with the two ice blocks found in the supply chest. You should have enough land for construction, but you can alternatively use wood on the side farthest from the lava if needed. In this way, you will create an infinite source of water, because all the buckets you take will be immediately regenerated.
Step 9. Create a crushed stone generator
One of the simplest methods is to dig a pit that is 4 blocks long and two blocks deep at the height of the second block. Now, pour a bucket of water on the end with the hole of two blocks and a bucket of lava on the other side.
-
To make a simple crushed stone generator, you need to follow this pattern (T = Earth, A = Water, S = Empty space, L = Lava):
- T-A-S-S-L-T
- T-S-T-T-S-T
-
You can get a more compact generator as follows: (T = Earth, S = Empty space, P = Rubble, A = Water and L = Lava)
- S-S-A-P-L-T
- T-A-A-T-S-T
- T-T-T-T-T-T
Step 10. "Dig" the rubble from your generator
You can get this material by mixing running water with lava.
If you wish, you can combine the water source with the crushed stone generator
Step 11. Build a furnace
Use the workbench to make a furnace with eight blocks of crushed stone, then burn the wood, using the second block you kept as fuel, to make the first charcoal. With the latter, make some torches.
Step 12. Build a fishing rod
You can do this by using the sticks and part of the rope from the supply chest. Thanks to the barrel and furnace, you can satisfy hunger while you wait for your garden to bear fruit.
Step 13. Continue generating and collecting crushed stone
Once you have a sufficient supply of material, extend the platform to the bottom of the island and grab the earth, being careful not to break the generator.
- If you build stone slabs, you will be able to cover double the surface, with the same amount of raw materials. Furthermore, the plate method has the advantage of preventing monsters from spawning in poorly lit areas.
- To avoid losing ground blocks, create a platform or tub under the Skyblock to collect anything that falls from above.
- You can do this by opening a block hole in the rubble and pouring a bucket of water into it to create a waterfall that you can swim through.
- Go down and place 4 crushed stone blocks one on top. Return to the surface to breathe, then dive back into the water and place a single block perpendicular to the others, directly under the original hole. At that point, go up the waterfall.
- Get out of the water and take it with the bucket.
- Place a ladder and go down on the perpendicular block you placed, then build and expand the lower level under the original Skyblock.
- Continue expanding the floor below the main level. You can leave it dark to spawn monsters or light it up to prevent them from coming, as you like.
Step 14. Consider creating a mob spawner
You can do this by building a platform without lights. This way, you will be able to collect items dropped by monsters, such as rope, bones (for making bone meal useful in the garden), special tools and more.
Since you have no iron, you will not be able to use the hoppers. On the contrary, you will have to run along the edges of the plane and collect the objects manually
Step 15. Consider creating a "pasture"
It should be an area 24 blocks away from the area you usually occupy, in order to generate animals that will become a source of food and other resources.
Step 16. Play however you like
The rest is up to you. You can expand your home, create a more effective monster trap, build a large monster farm - the possibilities are endless. Skyblock ends when you have passed all the challenges or when you cannot continue without resorting to the cheats.
Advice
- If you accidentally turn the lava into obsidian, you can turn it back into lava with the right mouse button.
- There is a way to get iron and generate it indefinitely. You can create an artificial village so that the villagers appear. Once there are enough villagers in your "village", iron golems will appear to protect them. You can then take out the golems to get the metal.
- If you're unfamiliar with crushed stone generators, study some blueprints so you don't accidentally turn your lava into obsidian.
- In version 1.0 of the game and later, animals spawn more than 24 blocks from your location, so don't hope to use them to get a lot of food or resources. Instead, create a dark room to take out the monsters to get the wool rope and use the farm to make bread.
- Cover the water to keep it from freezing, or place a flashlight near it. To do this, you just need to build a "roof" over the water. In cold biomes, you can also use this strategy to protect your farm from snow.
- Leave a piece of grass until you are able to make a farm, as you will need it to obtain seeds and to breed animals. Note that you will need to build an earth platform at least 24 blocks away from where you are most often, if you want animals to appear. Light it up well, so as to prevent the monsters from coming. Make a square of land at least 5x5 in size and wait. Eliminate all unnecessary animals (such as horses and donkeys that you cannot use without a saddle, an item not available in Skyblock) to allow edible and useful ones to replace them. Sheep in particular are the best, as they drop both wool (for the bed!) And mutton (food).
Warnings
- Monsters spawn 24 blocks from the player, so light up the platform as you widen it to prevent enemies from ruining your game.
- You cannot sleep in Skyblock when playing on a server, because there are other users in the same world.
- Keep your bucket safe, because you can't make another one.
-
Conditions under which you will not be able to continue include:
- Have no saplings to plant other trees;
- No way to get seeds (no weed);
- Losing too much land (no farms or trees);
- Miss the sand (no glass or cactus farm).
