This article shows how to delete the cookies that Safari, Chrome and Firefox browsers store on a Mac. Cookies are temporary files that are stored on your computer by the websites you visit and are intended to speed up web browsing. Thanks to cookies, the same sites are also able to memorize the user account so that you do not have to log in at each visit. When you delete the cookies from your computer, you need to log back in to all the websites you were connected to.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Safari
Step 1. Launch the Safari app
It has a blue compass icon.
Step 2. Enter the Safari menu
It is located in the upper left of the Mac screen. A list of options will appear.
Step 3. Choose the item Preferences…
It is located at the top of the menu Safari appeared.
Step 4. Go to the Privacy tab
It is located in the upper right part of the "Preferences" window.
Step 5. Press the Manage website data… button
It is visible in the center of the window. If you are using an older version of the Mac operating system, you will need to select the item Delete all website data ….
Step 6. Press the Remove All button
It is located in the lower left part of the window.
Step 7. Press the Remove Now button when prompted
In this way the cookies stored by Safari on the Mac will be deleted.
Step 8. Clear Safari's cache to delete stored cookies
If after deleting the cookies on your Mac you notice that some of them continue to appear, you will need to clear the Safari cache to solve the problem. This will delete all information, except for Favorites and Browser Settings. Follow these instructions:
- Access the menu Safari.
- Choose the voice Preferences….
- Access the card Advanced.
- Select the check button Show development menu in the menu bar.
- Access the menu Development.
- Choose the option Empty the cache.
Method 2 of 3: Google Chrome
Step 1. Launch Google Chrome by clicking the icon
It is characterized by a red, yellow and green circle with a blue sphere in the center.
Step 2. Access the Chrome menu
It is located in the upper left corner of the Mac screen. A list of options will appear.
Step 3. Choose the Clear browsing data… option
It is located at the top of the menu Chrome. The "Clear Browsing Data" dialog box will appear.
Step 4. Select the time interval to be considered
Access the drop-down menu to the right of the "Delete the following items from" item located at the top of the window, then choose one of the following options:
- Last hour.
- Last day.
- Last week.
- Last four weeks.
- All.
Step 5. Select the "Cookies and other site data" checkbox
You can also choose other options in the current window, the important thing is that the item in question is selected so that the cookies stored by Chrome are deleted from the Mac.
Step 6. Press the Clear Browsing Data button
It is blue in color and is located in the lower right part of the window. In this way the Chrome cookies will be deleted from the Mac.
Method 3 of 3: Firefox
Step 1. Launch Firefox
Double-click the blue globe icon surrounded by an orange fox.
Step 2. Enter the History menu
It is located in the upper left of the Mac screen. A list of options will appear.
Step 3. Choose the item Clear recent history…
It is one of the options listed within the menu Chronology. A new dialog will appear.
Step 4. Access the "Time range to clear" drop-down menu
It is located at the top of the "Clear Recent History" pop-up window. A list of options will be displayed:
- Last hour.
- Last two hours.
- Last four hours.
- Today.
- All.
Step 5. Select the "Cookies" checkbox
You can choose to select or deselect the other items in the list as well, but for Firefox cookies to be deleted from the Mac you must select the "Cookies" check button.
Step 6. Press the Erase Now button
It is located at the bottom of the dialog box.
