In the world around us, in which we are subjected to constant external stimuli, it is easy to get carried away by countless distractions and lose sight of priorities. Here are some useful tips to take a more concrete daily approach.
Steps
Step 1. Set yourself rules to learn to distinguish when it's time to work and when it's time to play
Step 2. If you are taking any medications for attention deficit hyperactivity syndrome (or similar disorders), follow your doctor's advice
Research has shown that a proper diet can reduce the symptoms of certain ailments, so find out which foods might help you.
Step 3. Try to get enough sleep
Experts recommend 7-8 hours of sleep per night. When you are tired, it is more difficult to concentrate. Striving to get things done could even be counterproductive, because you would make mistakes.
Step 4. Turn off your mobile
Step 5. Tell everyone around you and your friends that you need peace of mind to complete a job, so they should avoid bothering you
Step 6. Make a to-do schedule
Step 7. Think ahead of potential distractions and try to distance yourself from them
Step 8. Asking your sibling or parents for a helping hand is not a distraction if they help you with your job
Step 9. Set yourself the goal of spending a week without distractions:
- Make a list of all the daily distractions and put it in prominence somewhere. Then set a goal like "At the end of this week I'll give myself a full day to do whatever I want". Sounds pretty good, doesn't it?
- After a good night's sleep, start the day with a healthy breakfast and a few aphorisms to boost your motivation.
- Mentally prepare a schedule of commitments to fulfill during the day and stick to it. Set easy-to-meet deadlines for each task, keeping you busy all day.
- If you feel the need to distract yourself, take a moment to think about whether you really want to waste your precious time.
- Use determination to prove to yourself that you can survive for a week without distractions.
Advice
- Listening to music is fun, but if you have to start all over again every time, it's best to listen to it when you're done.
- Having a daily schedule is a great way to focus on a task and know what you need to accomplish.
- Set goals. If you know that the task will take some time, then set small goals, at which point you will enjoy some time lazing around or doing anything else.
- If something urgent comes up in the middle of your work, fix it as quickly as possible to get back to your original task.
- Negotiate deadlines. Collaborate with your colleagues to make project and assignment deadlines acceptable. In this way the stress will be reduced. If you fall behind, renegotiate deadlines to make sure the project is completed with as little stress as possible.
- Evaluate the time it will take to complete your task and set aside a portion of the day to complete it. This will allow you to have more time to do other things.
- If you have more than one task, focus on one job at a time. Going back and forth will only waste your time.
Warnings
- Don't force others to stick to these rules. Everyone has the right to choose what to do. This system should only be tried by those who read this article and want to prove that it is possible to live for a week without distractions!
- Listening to the iPod helps you isolate yourself from the surrounding noises, but singing is quite counterproductive.
- If you walk away from your family, you will not enjoy their approval.
- Rejecting your friends' phone calls and texts may lower their esteem for you.
