Southwest Airlines flight attendants take care of customer service and passenger safety. Work shifts often vary and you work overtime, but you may also have the opportunity to travel for free. If you've ever wondered how to get hired on this airline, you'll be surprised at the simplicity of the procedure, although of course you have to take a course to become a flight attendant first, and that can take some time.
Steps
Step 1. Learn about career opportunities at Southwest Airlines
Go to the page called Southwest Airlines Career (www.southwest.com/careers) and select "View all job postings". You can modify this search to include only certain seats and categories, such as “flight attendant”. Click on the “Apply Now” link after choosing the location.
Step 2. Submit your resume online to Southwest Airlines
Now the company only accepts CVs sent through the web application process. The part of the site dedicated to this aspect offers three options to send it: upload it, copy and paste it and send it through an appropriate procedure. Select the one that's right for you. After uploading your resume, you will be asked to provide personal information and also to answer some general business questions. Once you have completed all the mandatory fields of the online application, you will receive a confirmation, which will indicate that it has been sent correctly. Then, wait for them to call you!
Step 3. Attend meetings where they will give you information about the job and selections
You will be aware of the requirements to become a flight attendant for this airline; for example, they will teach you how to offer a high quality service to customers, they will explain what your responsibilities are in flight and how to act in the face of different situations that arise on the plane.
Step 4. Take part in the individual interview
Prepare for this moment by researching Southwest Airlines, learning about customer service standards and the specific skills needed to work with it. At the interview, they may ask you to undergo a criminal background check and / or drug test. If you fail these exams, you will be automatically banned.
Step 5. Attend and pass the Flight Attendant Training Class at Southwest Airlines headquarters in Dallas, Texas
You will not be paid for this four-week training because you are not yet an employee of the company. It is the last step to become a flight attendant for this airline.
Advice
- Southwest Airlines requires all applicants to be at least 20 years of age, have a high school diploma (or equivalent), can lift 23 kg and have the right authorization to work under the Immigration Reform Act.
- Resumes are kept for up to six months. If you don't receive any phone calls in this time frame, you need to repeat the same steps to postpone it.
